[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LGELECTRONICS is embarking on efforts to improve work productivity through an Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) initiative involving all employees.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 29th that it recently held a first-half “AX Hackathon” and selected five business innovation projects to be applied to software development, product packaging design, and logistics and supply chain management (SCM). Approximately 2,100 employees participated in the event, proposing around 700 ideas, and the company conducted a two-month review and validation process.

The “24-Hour Fully Autonomous Work System,” selected as an outstanding project, is a solution in which an AI agent performs key software development processes—from receiving and categorizing tasks to analyzing requirements, implementing code, testing and verification, and drafting and submitting documentation. It is designed so that AI handles routine tasks, allowing humans to focus on decision-making, coordinating opinions, and tasks requiring creativity.

Based on its own verification results, LGELECTRONICS estimated that using this system could automate approximately 80% of work, reducing annual working hours per employee by more than 1,200 hours. The company explained that the system could be expanded to general office tasks in the future.

The automated product packaging design solution uses AI to implement 3D modeling, developers’ decision-making logic, and container loading optimization. The company projected that this would reduce packaging design tasks—which previously took an average of 120 hours—to approximately 1.5 hours.

The logistics and SCM-specialized solution analyzes approximately 100,000 logistics and shipping data points in real time to manage risk factors in vessel schedules. It aims to reduce the time required for data retrieval and analysis—which previously took more than three hours—to about one minute. An integrated work platform that reduces the time spent on internal administrative tasks, such as attendance tracking and expense processing, by more than 80%, as well as an AI-based advertising content generation and recommendation system, were also included among the outstanding projects.

LGELECTRONICS plans to expand the implementation of these projects to more organizations in phases following proof-of-concept testing. Subsequently, they will be registered as sub-agents of “LG-NI,” the company’s internal AI platform, and rolled out company-wide.

Now in its third year, the AX Hackathon has seen its participant count increase more than fourfold, from approximately 500 in the first half of 2024 to about 2,100 this year. This represents a roughly 50% increase compared to the first half of last year, and the cumulative number of ideas submitted to date has reached 2,000.
