"Even Samsung's Jackpot Is No Help"... KOSPI Market Remains Cautious

[Edaily Reporter PARK MIN ] On the 30th, the KOSPI is showing high volatility, fluctuating between gains and losses. While the final second-quarter earnings report from SamsungElectronics(005930)—one of the market’s two largest companies by market capitalization—briefly pushed the index higher, investors appear to be engaged in a tense game of waiting and watching as time passes.

According to MP Doctor, as of 1:04 p.m. today, the KOSPI is trading at 5,632.62, down 30.62 points (0.54%) from the previous trading day. Volatility is on the rise, with the index climbing as high as 5,976.82 during the session—appearing poised to reclaim the 6,000 mark—before selling pressure in semiconductor stocks widened losses, pushing it down to 5,547.41.

In terms of market participants, retail investors are net sellers of 1.5398 trillion won, while foreign investors are net buyers of 558.2 billion won and institutional investors are net buyers of 986.6 billion won; however, this is insufficient to lift the index. In program trading, net buying totaled 587.9 billion won, comprising 42.5 billion won in arbitrage trading and 545.4 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.

The KOSDAQ is currently trading at 651.41, down 11.27 points (1.70%) from the previous trading day. Although it rose as high as 677.19 during the session, it subsequently extended its losses, falling as low as 645.38, and is showing a bearish trend.

By investor type, foreign investors were net buyers of 63.1 billion won, while retail investors and institutions continued their “selling spree,” posting net sales of 29.3 billion won and 37.8 billion won, respectively. In program trading, net buying totaled 62.8 billion won, comprising 7.3 billion won in arbitrage trading and 55.4 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
KOSPI Closes Lower

Earlier today, SamsungElectronics’ stock price rose as much as 8.39% (226,000 won) during a conference call immediately following the announcement of its confirmed earnings—which marked “a record-breaking performance for the third consecutive quarter”—but due to downward pressure, it is currently up only 0.84% (210,250 won) at the time of this report. SK hynix also rose as much as 4.14% (1,459,000 won) before turning downward and is currently down 4.71%.

In addition, SKSQUARE(402340)(-7.65%), SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(-7.39%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(-1.56%), and Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(-1.13%) are also trading lower.

In contrast, secondary battery stocks showed notable strength. LG Energy Solution(373220)surged 5.49%, boosting investor sentiment. On the KOSDAQ market, ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)is trading at 70,600 won, up 4.75% from the previous trading day, while ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)is trading at 97,000 won, up 5.40%, both showing an upward trend.

Rainbow Robotics(277810), a leading robotics stock, fell 7.55%, while JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(-14.73%), HLB INC.(028300)(-4.48%), ABL Bio Inc.(298380)(-2.53%), LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(-4.64%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(-7.45%), and PharmaResearch(214450)(-9.59%) also posted declines, weighing on the index.

By sector, the shipbuilding sector drew market attention amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, rising 5.03% to post the highest gain. This was followed by aerospace and defense (4.83%), diversified utilities (4.65%), gaming and entertainment (3.94%), and trading and retail companies (3.81%), all of which showed strength. In contrast, the electronic equipment and devices sector plummeted 9.33%, marking the largest decline.
