[Edaily Reporter kyoungeun kim ] SamsungElectroMechanics is surging in early trading on the 3rd on the back of strong second-quarter earnings and expectations of an improvement in the multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) market.
According to MP Doctor, as of 9:14 a.m. on the 3rd, SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)is trading at 1,174,000 won, up 2.80% from the previous trading day. Although the stock briefly rose to 1,260,000 won—a gain of nearly 10%—during the session, it gave up those gains due to downward pressure from the market.
SamsungElectroMechanics had also closed at 1,142,000 won—the daily price limit—on the previous trading day, the 31st of last month.

The continued buying momentum is believed to stem from SamsungElectroMechanics’ announcement of second-quarter earnings that exceeded market expectations. SamsungElectroMechanics’ second-quarter revenue reached 3.4572 trillion won, a 24.2% increase year-over-year. Operating profit rose 106.7% to 440.4 billion won.
The earnings growth was driven by increased shipments of high-value-added MLCCs for artificial intelligence (AI) servers and data centers, as well as rising selling prices and improved capacity utilization rates for server-grade flip-chip ball grid array (FC-BGA) products. With demand for MLCCs for AI servers surging and major manufacturers maintaining high capacity utilization rates, expectations for supply shortages and further price hikes are also growing.
The earnings announcement by competitor Murata of Japan is also having a positive impact on SamsungElectroMechanics’ stock price. iM Securities analyzed that Murata’s earnings showed a consistent trend of improvement in orders, inventory, and guidance, and predicted this would have a positive effect on SamsungElectroMechanics as well.
Ko Eui-young, an analyst at iM Securities, explained that Murata’s second-quarter operating profit exceeded market forecasts by about 9% and that steep growth was confirmed in the server applications segment, with computer division sales surging 47%. He also noted that factors contributing to price declines have diminished and that Murata has left open the possibility of raising prices for its distribution channels.
In particular, Analyst Ko noted, “The second-quarter capacitor order backlog surged 49% compared to the previous quarter,” adding, “With the backlog growing and inventory declining slightly, this indicates that supply is failing to keep up with demand.” Murata raised its revenue guidance for this year from 325 billion yen in April to 370.6 billion yen and, for the first time, stated that it would “closely monitor pre-orders resulting from supply constraints,” hinting at the possibility of panic buying due to tight supply and demand.
Kim Min-kyung, an analyst at Hana Securities, noted, “The supplier-dominated market conditions are strengthening further,” and analyzed, “The surge in demand for MLCCs for AI servers is expected to lift the component division’s profitability beyond previous highs.” Hana Securities maintained its target price of 3 million won and “Buy” rating for SamsungElectroMechanics.
