[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] Kangstem Biotech ( KANGSTEM BIOTECH CO., LTD.(217730)) announced on the 3rd that it has appointed Professor Kang Kyung-sun of Seoul National University’s College of Veterinary Medicine—the company’s founder and technical advisor—as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) following approval by the President of Seoul National University.
The company explained that this appointment is intended to strengthen its research and development capabilities based on stem cell and organoid platforms and to advance its clinical development and technology commercialization strategies.
As CSO at CS CORPORATION, Kang will oversee research and development (R&D), clinical development strategies, pipeline planning, the advancement of the organoid platform, and the acquisition of next-generation technologies, while leading the company’s mid- to long-term R&D strategy.
Dr. Kang, who previously served as a professor at Seoul National University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, has conducted research in the fields of stem cells and regenerative medicine. He founded KANGSTEM BIOTECH CO., LTD., laying the groundwork for the development of stem cell therapies. Recently, he has been conducting research on organoid platforms—including those for skin and hair follicles—and collaborating with global pharmaceutical companies.
With this appointment of CSO Kang, KANGSTEM BIOTECH CO., LTD. plans to strengthen its research-centric management system that integrates R&D with commercialization and to pursue a pipeline strategy that takes global technology transfer and clinical development into account. The company also intends to incorporate CSO Kang’s expertise into the R&D and commercialization strategies for its key pipelines, including the osteoarthritis treatment “OSCA” and the organoid-based new drug evaluation platform.
