[Edaily Reporter NA EUN-KYUNG ] Bukwang Pharmaceutical ( BukwangPharmaceutical(003000)) announced on the 4th that it has signed an exclusive supply agreement with Thai healthcare company Pacific Healthcare for “Dexid Tablets” (active ingredient: altioctate tromethamine), a treatment for diabetic polyneuropathy, in Thailand.

Under this agreement, Pacific Healthcare will be responsible for the product approval, marketing, and distribution of “Dexid Tablets” in Thailand, while BukwangPharmaceutical will support product supply and the approval process.

Pacific Healthcare, a Thai healthcare specialist established in 1961, operates in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer healthcare sectors. Leveraging its sales and distribution network across Thailand, the company collaborates with numerous global pharmaceutical firms.

Dexid Tablets are an improved new drug formulation of alpha-lipoic acid launched by BukwangPharmaceutical in 2014; they are a prescription medication used to treat diabetic polyneuropathy. Diabetic polyneuropathy is a major complication of diabetes characterized by damage to peripheral nerves caused by prolonged hyperglycemia, resulting in symptoms such as numbness and pain in the hands and feet, as well as sensory abnormalities. Alpha-lipoic acid is a causative treatment that reduces oxidative stress to improve nerve damage and is recommended in domestic and international diabetes treatment guidelines.

Dexid tablets are currently sold in South Korea, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and are undergoing the product approval process in Vietnam. BukwangPharmaceutical plans to use this entry into the Thai market as an opportunity to expand the number of countries it supplies within the ASEAN market and strengthen its business foundation in Southeast Asia.

Lee Je-young, CEO of BukwangPharmaceutical, stated, “This agreement is an important milestone in our strategy to expand into the Southeast Asian market,” adding, “Based on Pacific Healthcare’s local sales and marketing capabilities, we will successfully establish a foothold in the Thai market and use this as a springboard to further expand our presence in the ASEAN market.”
