Following the launch of its AI subtitling service last January, the company is expanding its translation capabilities to the chat section as part of its efforts to advance the global live streaming environment.

SOOP announced on the 10th that it had introduced an AI-based automatic chat translation feature through an update on the 4th.

AI chat translation supports various languages, including Korean, English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Thai. If the broadcast language differs from the service language set by the user, the chat is automatically translated.

Users can view the translated chat in real time without having to press a separate translation button. The service also allows users to view the original text of the translated chat and copy it.

The platform has also expanded the range of supported devices. AI chat translation is now available not only on mobile and PC but also on Android TV and smart TVs. This enables real-time communication across various environments, regardless of location or device.

SOOP explained that by adding AI chat translation to its existing AI subtitles, it has created an environment where users worldwide can participate together in a single broadcast without language barriers.

Previously, streamers and viewers who spoke different languages often had to use separate translation services to communicate, or viewers could only understand some of the chat messages.

With the introduction of AI chat translation, streamers can view messages from international viewers in real time in their preferred language. Viewers can also understand conversations between streamers and viewers from other countries in their own language and communicate within a single chat window.

In fact, streamer “Yoshimyan,” who hosted his first broadcast on SOOP on the 4th, used AI chat translation to communicate with domestic and international viewers during his Seoul travel content.

During the broadcast, he solicited travel route recommendations from viewers and received guidance on tourist attractions, such as Namsan Tower, to help shape the content. Viewers from both Korea and abroad shared their opinions in their own languages and actively participated in the travel content.

SOOP expects that AI chat translation will enhance real-time communication—a core element of live streaming—and expand the creation of content co-produced by streamers and global viewers.

AI captions and AI chat translation are also expected to be highly useful in esports content with a global fanbase. In the personal streams of players from professional esports organizations active on SOOP—such as T1, Gen.G, kt Rolster, KIWOOM DRX, BNK PEERX, Dplus Kia, and DN Supers—domestic and international fans can cheer and share opinions in a single chat window.

Participation by international users is also expected to grow for content with global fan bases, such as esports, sports broadcasts, and dance competitions. Users can follow the action and broadcast content through AI subtitles, exchange opinions in their own languages via real-time chat, and enjoy the content together.
