According to industry sources on the 16th, the so-called “3M features”—“My FanCam,” “Multi Window,” and “Mirror View”—included in SamsungElectronics’ Galaxy Z series are attracting user interest.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 recently sold 1.44 million units during pre-sales in South Korea—the highest number ever for any Galaxy smartphone. With particularly high interest from customers in their 10s to 30s and female customers, features that leverage the foldable devices’ screens and camera capabilities have drawn significant attention.

First, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 now feature the newly added “My Fan Cam,” powered by Galaxy AI. This feature allows users to select a specific person in a recorded video, after which the AI tracks that person and re-edits the video to center on them.

In situations where multiple people appear on screen—such as at a concert—users can select a specific singer or band member to create a video centered on that person. Users can choose their preferred aspect ratio—such as 1:1, 3:4, or 9:16—reducing the need to crop the video or adjust the frame manually after recording.

In particular, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is equipped with a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera and the Galaxy Z Fold series’ first 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. By combining these high-resolution cameras with My Fan Cam, SamsungElectronics is targeting the demand for “fan cams”—videos where users select and edit footage of specific performers from concert recordings.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a “Multi Window” feature that takes advantage of its large screen. When unfolded, the Fold 8 features a 7.6-inch (193.2 mm) display with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

With Multi Window, users can split the screen into up to three sections to run three apps simultaneously. Depending on the user’s preferred layout, they can display a specific app in a larger window or split the screen into equal-sized sections, and the size of each window can be adjusted. This feature allows users to, for example, watch a video while checking messages or view other information, such as stock charts, at the same time.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 introduces “Mirror View,” which allows the cover display to function like a mirror. This feature lets users check their face and other details on the smartphone’s cover screen while the device is folded, eliminating the need to take out a separate hand mirror.

Unlike a standard selfie camera screen, Mirror View is designed to display your appearance with color tones that closely resemble those of a real mirror. In dark environments, lighting along the edges of the screen makes it easier to see your face.

After the initial setup, users can launch Mirror View by double-tapping the side button or swiping the camera icon while the cover screen is locked. Since there’s no need to unfold the device, this is an example of leveraging the compact form factor of the Flip series to enhance everyday convenience.

SamsungElectronics plans to increase the versatility of the Galaxy Z series and expand its reach among younger consumers through features that leverage the unique form factors of each model, such as My Fan Cam, Multi Window, and Mirror View.
