[Edaily Reporter Kim Ji-woo ] SPC SAMLIP(005610)saw its profitability deteriorate significantly in the second quarter of this year despite revenue growth. While revenue expanded due to new Pokémon products and strong overseas exports, this was offset by the combined impact of increased safety compliance costs, rising raw material prices, and the burden of a strong exchange rate.

SAMLIP announced on the 14th that its consolidated operating profit for the second quarter of this year fell 98.7% to 100 million won. During the same period, revenue rose 2.9% year-over-year to 847.8 billion won. The company posted a net loss of 3.1 billion won, marking a shift to a deficit.

Consolidated revenue for the first half of this year totaled 1.6601 trillion won, a 1.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The company posted an operating loss of 4.2 billion won, shifting from an operating profit of 24.8 billion won in the first half of last year.

This is attributed to the Food division’s shift to a loss and deteriorating profitability in the Bakery and Distribution divisions. In the first half, the Food division recorded an operating loss of 9.4 billion won, while the Bakery division’s operating profit fell 86.9% year-over-year to 2.3 billion won.

A SAMLIP official explained, “Revenue increased slightly due to strong sales of new products commemorating the 30th anniversary of Pokémon and expanded global export performance,” adding, “Profitability was impacted by increased costs related to enhanced safety measures—such as restructuring shift work systems—as well as rising raw material prices and a strong exchange rate.”

The spokesperson continued, “However, the Bakery Division contributed to improved performance, turning a first-quarter operating loss into a profit in the second quarter, and net income is also showing signs of recovery as the deficit narrowed,” adding, “We plan to continue improving our performance through measures such as strengthening product competitiveness, streamlining management, and implementing cost-reduction initiatives.”
