[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] On the 21st, independent research firm CMIR stated that the value of PLANTYNET Co., Ltd.(075130)’s content assets—specifically the magazine content held by its subsidiary, PlantiM—is likely to be reevaluated as it is utilized as data for artificial intelligence (AI) search services.

Planty M provides access to over 2,400 magazine titles worldwide through its magazine content platform, “Moajin.” It has accumulated more than 110,000 issues of content and maintains an article DB of over 800,000 entries.

CMIR believes that as AI search services become more widespread, the value of content with clear sources and copyrights that has undergone an editorial process is likely to increase. The company explained that while magazine content was previously the primary source for subscription services provided to users, it now has a greater potential to serve as a new revenue stream by supplying data to AI services.

In fact, PlantiM signed a contract with Naver on the 20th to supply magazine content for AI search and utilization purposes. CMIR highlighted that through this agreement, PlantiM can now utilize the content it has already secured not only for subscription services but also through a separate channel: supplying AI data.

CMIR cited Getty Images as a global example. After Getty Images announced in June that it had signed a multi-year content licensing agreement with OpenAI, its stock price rose 90% in a single day. CMIR interpreted this as the market reacting not so much to the scale of the contract, but to the fact that an archive of copyright-verified content is a valuable asset in the AI era.

The expansion of the media business is also reflected in financial results. PLANTYNET Co., Ltd.’s media division revenue for the first half of this year reached 6.1 billion won, with second-quarter revenue totaling 3.4 billion won—a 16% increase compared to the same period last year. The media division’s share of consolidated revenue also expanded from 24% in the same period last year to 36%.

However, profitability in the media division remains a challenge. The media division posted an operating loss of 1.4 billion won in the first half of the year, as the costs of acquiring magazine content are fixed expenses that occur regardless of subscriber numbers. CMIR assessed that there is potential for improving the profit-and-loss structure, noting that if AI data supply expands, the company could generate additional revenue by leveraging its existing content acquisition costs.

CMIR stated, “If PlantiM’s data supply establishes itself as a recurring revenue stream and expands through additional partnerships, it could become a new growth engine for PLANTYNET Co., Ltd.,” adding, “Verified content is necessary for AI search to provide reliable results, and such content can be imbued with new value.”
