According to distributor Showbox on the 20th, “Yeto” tells the story of two influencer sisters who go on a camping trip, only to have the younger sister disappear at the mysterious site of a defunct cult. Following “Train to Busan,” “Hellbound,” and “Parasite: The Gray,” the film is drawing attention as a work that expands Director Yeon Sang-ho’s distinctive, eerie universe.
Director Yeon Sang-ho co-directed the film with Director Yoon Young-woo. Director Yoon has worked closely with Director Yeon for a long time, having served on the directing staff for *Train to Busan* and *Parasite* before participating as an assistant director on *Parasite: The Gray* and *Hell*. *Yeto* marks his directorial debut in commercial cinema.
The cast lineup is also drawing attention. Moon Geun-young plays Su-ah, an influencer who shares her daily life with her younger sister. Notably, this film marks Moon Geun-young’s return to a leading role on the big screen after a nine-year hiatus. Following her striking transformation in Season 2 of the Netflix series *Hellbound*, she has reunited with director Yeon Sang-ho.
Kim Si-ah takes on the role of Su-ah’s younger sister, Min-ah, playing off Moon Geun-young as her on-screen sister. Her character experiences turmoil while by her influencer older sister’s side before finding herself at the center of the incident. Go Ah-sung plays Deok-hee, a character the sisters encounter in the mysterious world they’ve stepped into. This is her first collaboration with Director Yeon Sang-ho.
Director Yeon expressed confidence in this project, calling it “one of the most innovative works” among those he has created. He highlighted the combination of original visual effects and drama as a key strength and revealed that he was so impressed by the performances of Moon Geun-young, Go Ah-sung, and Kim Si-ah during filming that he couldn’t help but marvel at them.
Given that a substantial amount of post-production work is planned, there is also keen interest in what kind of visuals *Yeto* will deliver. Director Yoon Young-woo also cited new visual effects technology as a major highlight. The concept involves visually depicting the journey from a familiar reality into a strange world created by someone’s intense conviction.
Director Yeon Sang-ho, who is releasing this new film immediately following *The Swarm*, brings his genre-bending imagination to the project, while Moon Geun-young returns to a leading role on the big screen for the first time in nine years, joined by the dynamic duo of Go Ah-sung and Kim Si-ah. Having completed filming, *Yeto* is currently in post-production.
