[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] Alpha Holdings, Inc.(117670), having established capabilities in advanced node development, is set to target the overseas application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) market, focusing on high-value-added cutting-edge semiconductors such as those for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).
Alphachips announced on the 24th that it is accelerating the establishment of a global project order pipeline, focusing on major ASIC markets such as the United States, Japan, and China.
The company has completed a restructuring of its business operations by divesting non-core businesses and refocusing on advanced semiconductor sectors such as AI and HPC. As SamsungElectronics Foundry’s first-generation Design Solution Partner (DSP) in Korea, it plans to expand its overseas order base by leveraging the design technology and specialized personnel it has accumulated over the past 20 years.
To this end, it is establishing local bases in the U.S., Japan, and China to increase customer touchpoints. In particular, it plans to target the U.S.—where global semiconductor companies and fabless firms are concentrated—as a core market to meet the demand for AI semiconductors and high-complexity ASIC development.
The company has also strengthened its management and development teams. Led by CEO Yoon Seok-won, who has experience in marketing for SamsungElectronics’ semiconductor division in the U.S., and Chief Operating Officer Ko Hyung-jong, a former vice president of development at SamsungElectronics’ semiconductor division, the company is pushing forward with its overseas market strategy. It has also recruited additional development engineers with experience in cutting-edge processes.
Alphachips highlights its “end-to-end” turnkey solution—which supports the entire process from product planning through design, verification, and mass production—as a key competitive advantage. The company’s strategy is to expand its portfolio of high-value-added ASIC projects in the AI and HPC sectors by leveraging its proprietary design platform, “ADEON,” and over 20 years of project execution experience.
The company also views the growing importance of semiconductors optimized for specific AI computations—such as ASICs and neural processing units (NPUs)—in the global AI semiconductor market as a business opportunity. There is a growing trend toward the development and adoption of in-house ASICs, led by global Big Tech companies such as Google, Amazon, and Meta.
According to market research firm TrendForce, the growth rate of ASIC shipments this year is projected to be three times higher than that of general-purpose products.
