[Edaily Reporter Yun Junghoon ]LG Uplus(032640)has become the first domestic telecommunications carrier to partner with “HackerOne,” the world’s largest bug bounty platform, to launch a global security verification system. This move is intended to proactively address the growing borderless cybersecurity threats resulting from the advancement of AI and the expansion of overseas infrastructure integration.

LGU+ announced that starting on the 24th, it will launch a “Global Bug Bounty (Security Vulnerability Reporting Reward) Program” covering all service areas, including mobile, internet, and enterprise services.

A bug bounty is a program that offers rewards to white-hat hackers who discover security vulnerabilities in services or IT infrastructure. Through this collaboration, LGU+ plans to leverage HackerOne’s global community—which includes over 2.4 million active white-hat hackers worldwide—to detect potential “attack surfaces” early on that would be difficult to identify using domestic systems alone.

Notably, this program will be operated as a “private” initiative, open only to skilled global white-hat hackers whose identities and capabilities have been verified. The company plans to establish a rapid response process—from threat detection to analysis and remediation—by implementing a round-the-clock reporting system.

LGU+ is pursuing a “two-track” strategy: maintaining its existing domestic bug bounty program jointly operated with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) while simultaneously launching a separate global program based on HackerOne. The goal is to eliminate all cybersecurity blind spots by establishing a vulnerability management system that spans both domestic and international domains.

Previously, LGU+ has made significant efforts to build a security ecosystem, including being the only telecommunications carrier to participate in the “Continuous Vulnerability Reporting, Response, and Disclosure (CVD·VDP) Pilot Program” organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and KISA, as well as the public-interest AI security initiative “Project Canopy.”

Hong Kwan-hee, Head of the LGU+ Information Security Center (Chief Information Security Officer, CISO), emphasized, “As telecommunications services increasingly connect with overseas infrastructure, the goal of this partnership is to proactively identify and address even vulnerabilities we have not yet discovered.” He added, “We will take the lead in creating a safe and transparent security ecosystem and promoting a culture of responsible vulnerability management.”
