[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] A union vote on the tentative agreement reached by SK hynix management and labor resulted in the agreement being rejected, with 50.1% voting against it.
According to industry sources on the 25th, the electronic vote by union members on the tentative agreement—which closed at 9:00 a.m. that day—resulted in 7,535 votes against, rejecting the agreement. With 50.1% voting against and 49.9% in favor (7,510 votes), the tentative agreement was rejected by a margin of 25 votes.
The total number of eligible voters was 16,038, and 15,045 cast ballots, resulting in a voter turnout of 93.81%.
Voting took place from 6:00 a.m. on the 24th until 9:00 a.m. on this day, with the tentative agreement on wages and the collective bargaining agreement for 2026 as the agenda item.
As a result of this rejection, the union will resume negotiations with management. Previously, the union had renegotiated with management after the tentative agreements for 2023 and 2024 were successively rejected in votes.
The core of this tentative agreement is to pay 40% of the Profit Sharing (PS)—a performance-based bonus—in cash, with the remaining 60% paid in company stock. Of the stock portion, 40% can be sold in the same year, while the remaining 20% will be distributed over two years at a rate of 10% per year.
Specifically for the 2026 PS, which will be distributed early next year, employees may choose to receive the 40% of shares that are tradable in the same year as cash. Consequently, next year, employees will be able to receive up to 80% of their PS in cash, depending on their choice.
