Cha In-pyo recently expressed his sorrow over the flood damage in Nepal on his social media, writing, “Countless people have lost their lives or are in danger of losing them due to the disaster that has struck Nepal,” and added, “I pray for swift rescue and recovery efforts. It is time for all of humanity to come together to preserve our planet.”
Jang Seong-gyu also posted on his social media, saying, “I’ve been in touch with a friend in Nepal, and the situation is extremely serious,” and prayed, “I hope there won’t be any further damage and that people can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
Susan, a TV personality originally from Nepal, posted, “I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to all those affected by the devastating floods that struck the Rasu region of Nepal, as well as to the families of those who have lost loved ones or are still missing,” adding, “I especially pray for the swift rescue of the missing South Korean citizens.”
She noted, “This crisis demonstrates that the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and various other natural disasters linked to climate change is growing across the Himalayas,” adding, “According to an interview with an elderly man who was rescued at the time, he stated that this was the first flood he had seen in 10 years.”
He continued, “Nepal’s new Prime Minister, Valendra ‘Val’ Shah, is mobilizing the military, police, disaster management agencies, medical personnel, and helicopters to intensify search, rescue, and relief efforts for the missing. She has also ordered the evacuation of residents in downstream areas—where further damage is feared—to safe locations and is swiftly promoting a government-wide emergency response and cooperation with the international community for support,” he said, adding, “I hope that India, China, South Korea, and other relevant countries will actively support Nepal’s rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as soon as possible through reliable and systematically coordinated official channels. “Please take a moment to pray for the people of Nepal and South Korea, as well as for those who are missing. I will also do my part by providing Nepali-Korean interpretation and facilitating connections with local channels,” she added.
Later, as inquiries about donations continued to pour in, Susan said, “I’m always cautious about posting anything related to donations, as it could be perceived as soliciting donations or organizing a fundraiser,” adding, “However, as the damage from floods and landslides in Nepal continues to escalate, displacing many people and causing the death toll to rise, I am posting this to provide official donation instructions to those who have reached out expressing a desire to help,” she added, followed by a post explaining how to donate.
He noted, “The Nepalese government operates the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support rescue operations, emergency relief, recovery efforts, and rehabilitation in disaster-stricken areas. An official channel has been established to allow direct donations from overseas via credit cards and other methods,” she explained, adding, “I am not personally organizing a fundraiser or accepting donations. I am simply sharing this information so that those wishing to contribute can donate directly to the official fund operated by the Nepalese government.”
Susan said, “Whether or not to donate, and how much to give, is up to each individual’s discretion. I hope that even a small gesture of concern and compassion will be of help to the residents of the affected areas who are currently facing hardship,” she said. “Furthermore, if sharing this news serves as an opportunity for many people in Korea to come together in a spirit of warmth, and if that can contribute even a little to Nepal’s recovery and rehabilitation—and ultimately to rebuilding the lives that have been shattered—it would be a source of immense joy for me. I sincerely thank those who have shown interest and reached out to me first.”
The death toll has risen to 472 following massive flooding in the Himalayan mountain region along the Nepal-China border. The flooding, which began on the 26th and is now in its third day, has left approximately 1,535 people missing.
