LG Corp. announced on the 30th that it has completed its membership in the “WonderJoy Travel Alliance,” a consortium of leading telecom operators in the Asia-Pacific region, and has successfully concluded a pilot operation in Japan ahead of the service’s official launch.
The “WonderJoy Travel Alliance” is a global benefits-sharing platform in which only one leading telecom operator from each country participates. Current members include △Singtel (Singapore) △KDDI (Japan) △HKT (Hong Kong) △AIS (Thailand) △Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) △Globe (Philippines) △Telkomsel (Indonesia) △Optus (Australia), among others, and LG Uplus has joined as the representative partner for South Korea.
10,000 Coupons Issued Over Three Months… High Usage Among Users in Their 30s and 40s
LG Uplus conducted a pilot service from June through the end of August targeting Japan, a popular destination for South Korean travelers. The company offered locally tailored discount coupons—for Don Quijote, Lawson convenience stores, Go Taxi, and Mount Fuji tours—to Roaming Pass subscribers who applied. As a result, over 10,000 coupons were downloaded over the three-month period.
The coupons proved highly practical, with 9 out of 10 downloaders (90%) actually using the benefits at Don Quijote and Lawson. By age group, users in their 40s accounted for the highest proportion at 34.8%, followed by those in their 30s (24.8%), 50s (18.6%), and 20s (15.7%).
Transitioning to an “app-based” system to address MMS limitations… Full-scale service to launch within the year
Customer feedback collected during the pilot phase will also be actively incorporated into the official service. To address the issue that coupons issued via text message were difficult to locate on-site, the service will be provided in an “app-based” format upon its official launch, allowing users to easily view them at any time.
LG Uplus plans to use its participation in this alliance as an opportunity to expand global cooperation beyond roaming to encompass the entire lifestyle sector, including travel, activities, and commerce.
Lim Hye-kyung, Head of Rate Plans at LG Uplus, stated, “By joining the WonderJoy Travel Alliance, we have laid the groundwork for customers to more conveniently access a variety of benefits provided by local carriers while abroad.” She added, “We will continue to expand our global partnerships to enhance customers’ overseas experiences and provide differentiated travel benefits.”
