[E-Daily Reporter kyoungeun kim ] LGELECTRONICS(066570)is surging in early trading on the 7th.
According to MP Doctor, as of 9:15 a.m., the stock is trading at 218,500 won, up 17,000 won (8.44%) from the previous day. The rise is believed to be driven by news that its subsidiary, Bear Robotics, is pursuing a pre-IPO (pre-listing investment) round.

A media outlet reported today that Bear Robotics has selected Bank of America (BoA) as its lead underwriter and is currently exploring investment opportunities with domestic and international private equity funds (PEFs). The target enterprise value is reportedly around 2 trillion won, with the amount to be raised estimated at 300 to 400 billion won. The funds raised are expected to be invested in robotics research and development (R&D).
LGELECTRONICS’ stake stood at 56.9% as of the end of the first half of the year. After investing $60 million (approximately 80 billion won) in March 2024 to secure a 21% stake, LGELECTRONICS exercised a call option in May 2025 to increase its stake and gain controlling interest. A total of approximately 340 billion won in cash was invested during this process.
Bear Robotics first made a name for itself with its serving robot “Servi” and has since expanded its scope to include industrial autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Currently, the company has deployed and is operating approximately 16,000 robots worldwide in the food service industry and logistics warehouses. Recently, the company has been promoting “Physical AI”—which expands the robot’s role to include “task execution,” where robots directly pick up and handle objects—as a new growth engine. Last June, it acquired Kinish Robotics, a British startup with robotic arm-based task execution technology, to internalize this capability.
With revenue of 17 billion won and a net loss of 42.2 billion won recorded from May 7 to the end of December last year, industry analysts suggest that the need to secure external capital to sustain technology development and business expansion while operating at a loss is the driving force behind this pre-IPO initiative.
The key issue is the government’s policy of, in principle, prohibiting dual listings. The parent company’s board of directors must fulfill five major obligations—including conducting a shareholder impact assessment and establishing protection measures—even when listing an overseas subsidiary. However, there are counterarguments pointing out that failing to list in a timely manner could result in missing the “golden window” for growth, and that achieving financial independence from the parent company through direct funding from overseas capital markets would improve operational efficiency. Some in the industry are also calling for exceptions to be made for companies in national strategic industries or those acquiring external technology firms.
