MyRealTrip Acquires CreateTrip… Expanding Business into Inbound Tourism
Following Strategic Investments in 2024, Company Acquires Entire Stake
Pushing to Incorporate Subsidiary via Stock Swap by Year-End
Covers overseas, domestic, and inbound travel; services operated independently
[Edaily Kang Gyeong-rok Travel Reporter] MyRealTrip has decided to acquire the entire stake in CreateTrip, a platform for foreign travelers visiting Korea. The company is expanding its business scope—which has primarily focused on overseas and domestic travel for Koreans—to include travel to Korea by foreign visitors. MyRealTrip announced on the 11th that its board of directors had approved the resolution to acquire a stake in CreateTrip. Following a strategic investment in 2024, the company plans to make CreateTrip a wholly-owned subsidiary through a stock swap. The specific acquisition amount and stock exchange ratio were not included in this announcement. MyRealTrip is an online travel platform founded in 2012. It has grown its business by selling airline tickets, accommodations, tours, and experiential products. According to the company, it has over 10 million registered users, and its total transaction volume last year was approximately 2.3 trillion won. Creetrip was founded in 2016. It introduces travel content and experiential products to foreign visitors to Korea and connects them with domestic partners to facilitate bookings. As of April of this year, the company reported 1.7 million monthly active users. This acquisition is intended to broaden both the range of travel products and the customer base. MyRealTrip has been providing comprehensive travel services, including flights, accommodations, and tours. It will now incorporate CreateTrip’s booking business—which has been connecting foreign users with domestic partners—as a subsidiary. The services of both companies will continue to operate independently. Services will remain available as usual even while the acquisition process is underway. MyRealTrip plans to complete the integration of CreateTrip as a subsidiary within this year after completing the remaining procedures.
