[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] Actors Ryu Jun-yeol, Hong Kyung, Jung Ho-yeon, Won Ji-an, and Justin Min will star in the new Netflix series “Outback.”

On the 11th, Netflix explained, “‘Outback’ is the story of ‘Sion,’ who travels to Australia upon hearing the news of his sister’s sudden death and, in a strange city, confronts the mysteries surrounding her death while tracking down the hidden truth.” Based on the webtoon “Geuda-i,” “Outback” will dramatically reinterpret the characters and story while building on the original’s mysterious tension. It will establish new backstories and relationships for each character, expand the cast of supporting characters and the world-building, and present a unique narrative specific to the series.
Director Han Jun-hee, who directed “D.P.” and served as the producer for the “Weak Hero” series, is serving as the drama’s executive producer. Having been involved in the process of adapting the original work into a drama, he stated, “Unlike the original, we aimed to portray the characters’ emotions and relationships with greater depth by leveraging the strengths of the drama medium. We wanted to capture not only the excitement of following the case but also the anxiety and growth of the young characters as they waver and change within it.”
Director Jeon Du-gwan, who served as assistant director on “D.P.” Season 2, post-production assistant director on the drama “Your Taste,” and directed “Scene: Strange Stories,” is helming the series. Writer Park Hyun-woo, who penned “Weak Hero Class 2,” and Director Han Jun-hee are co-writing the screenplay.
Ryu Jun-yeol plays “Min-hyuk,” who stands at the center of the case “Sion” is investigating. “Min-hyuk” is a mysterious man at the heart of all the suspicions. Hong Kyung portrays “Sion,” who travels to Australia to uncover the truth behind his sister’s death. The show will depict “Sion” gradually becoming entangled in mystery as he follows the clues his sister left behind in a foreign land.
Jung Ho-yeon plays “Smiley,” a content creator who connects with people through live streams in Australia, while Won Ji-an portrays “Si-young,” “Sion’s” older sister. Justin Min joins the cast as “Scott,” a Korean-American police officer.
Meanwhile, Ryu Jun-yeol recently made a strong impression in the Netflix series *Field Mouse*, playing a dual role as “Mun-jae”—a man pursued by the mysterious entity “Field Mouse”—and “Field Mouse” itself. *Field Mouse* rose to No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Non-English Shows chart just two weeks after its release, garnering popularity both domestically and internationally.
Jeong Ho-yeon made a strong impression in director Na Hong-jin’s film *Hope*. *Hope* debuted at No. 2 at the North American box office, raising expectations for its international success. Attention is now focused on what kind of performances these two actors, who have both been active in recent projects, will deliver in this new film.
