kakaopay has been lowering the physical barriers to offline payments by successively integrating various payment methods. Even at merchants that aren’t kakaopay affiliates, users can simply open the kakaopay app to switch between and select their preferred payment methods—including Seoul Pay Plus, Zero Pay, and Samsung Pay (Android only)—all from a single payment screen.
Additional benefits have also been added. When using Seoul Pay Plus via kakaopay, users can earn KakaoPay Points up to four times per transaction. In addition to the standard benefits offered by each payment method—such as credit cards and regional gift certificates—users can earn up to 30,000 points per month.
To pay with Seoul Pay Plus via kakaopay, simply select the “Scan QR” option in the top-right corner of the payment tab in the kakaopay app or the payment menu under the “More” tab in KakaoTalk. This involves scanning the “Seoul Pay Plus” QR code displayed at the store. Kakaopay Money is supported as a payment method.
A kakaopay spokesperson stated, “It is now easier and faster to pay with kakaopay at 270,000 Seoul Pay partner stores across Seoul,” adding, “We will break down the barriers across the offline payment market so that users can experience the most convenient and beneficial payments simply by opening the kakaopay app, no matter where they are.”
