[Edaily Reporter Choi Oh-hyun ] LG Corp. has unveiled case studies of its proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) system, “ExaOne,” which is being utilized as “expert AI” tailored to specific industrial settings. The company presented various examples of how the system has evolved beyond general-purpose AI to solve real-world challenges in industrial environments. Moving forward, LG Corp. plans to build “autonomous factories” based on a robot foundation model, where the entire factory operates as a single intelligent entity.
LG Corp. announced on the 8th that it participated in “International Conference on Machine Learning 2026,” the world’s most prestigious international conference in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence, held at COEX in Seoul since July 6, where it presented its research achievements along with examples of how LG’s AI “ExaOne” is driving innovation in industrial settings. On the 14th, LG Corp. AI Research held the “LG AI Talk Concert 2026” at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and presented case studies of expert AI technology applications in the manufacturing, finance, and science sectors. Over the past six years, LG Corp. AI Research has been building “expert AI” models that solve various problems by deploying EXAONE in industrial settings.

In the manufacturing sector, the institute showcased “EXAONE Tabular” and “EXAONE Omni-Inspect.” Tabular is a model that understands and predicts process conditions and quality information, while Omni-Inspect is an AI capable of performing inspections without retraining, even when process or product appearance images change.

Since process conditions in industrial settings change frequently, conventional AI systems faced the limitation of having to collect and train on new data to adapt to changing environments.

LG Corp. explained that by utilizing industry-specific AI models, it is possible to make rapid predictions and respond flexibly to changing process conditions even with limited on-site data. The company is also developing a vision inspection agent that autonomously performs data sampling, labeling, and model training.

In the field of science, the institute introduced “EXAONE Discovery,” which performs material design and predicts synthesis results.

The institute also revealed results from real-world industrial applications. In collaboration with LG H&H, LG AI Research reviewed 420,000 candidate substances for hair loss management and identified “Ramcidil,” a substance effective in preventing hair loss, in just one day.

In partnership with GS Caltex, the institute is developing materials for immersion cooling fluids in next-generation AI data centers, and is also collaborating with D&D Pharmatech Inc. to develop next-generation oral peptide drugs.

In the financial sector, the company has expanded its success into overseas markets by leveraging “EXAONE BI (EXAONE Business Intelligence),” which performs tasks ranging from data analysis to inference, prediction, and explanation. EXAONE BI, officially launched earlier this year, is expanding its business with partners such as the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). EXAONE BI is an AI that predicts financial markets using data.

LG Corp. announced today that it will prove its success by targeting broader markets beyond Korea, North America, Europe, and the Middle East—where it has secured key clients. It also stated that it plans to expand its scope of application to various asset classes, such as bonds and commodities, in the future.

Since its establishment in December 2020, LG Corp. AI Research has solved over 100 industry challenges, including predicting battery life and capacity, identifying defective products, optimizing production and materials management, and discovering new drug candidates. The institute has presented 368 papers at major global AI conferences and filed 1,080 domestic and international patent applications.

The next step is to develop a robot foundation model that serves as the “brain” of robots. The vision is to go beyond the automation of individual pieces of equipment to realize an autonomous factory where the entire facility operates as a single intelligent entity.

Lim Woo-hyung, Co-Director of LG AI Research, stated, “While building good AI models is important, LG AI Research’s mission is to solve difficult problems that have long remained unsolved in industrial settings,” adding, “We are now preparing for a stage where AI makes its own judgments and takes action.”

Koo Kwang-mo, CEO of LG Corp., has consistently emphasized, “The rules of technology and competition are changing, and customer expectations are rising even higher,” adding, “We must leap forward with new innovations that go beyond our past success formulas.”
