According to the mobile industry on the 17th, SamsungElectronics(005930)began rolling out the official update for its new smartphone operating system (OS), “One UI 9,” starting with the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra the previous day. This expands the latest software—previously introduced on the Galaxy Z8 series—to existing Galaxy devices.

One standout feature is “My Fan Cam.” When you select a person in a video, AI automatically tracks that person and positions them in the center of the screen. This feature is useful for creating short clips focused on a specific person in videos where multiple people are moving.

The feature where AI suggests next actions based on the situation has also been enhanced. “Now Nudge” suggests functions relevant to the current context—such as pulling up reservation details or saving a location sent by someone else—when users are scheduling an appointment via text message. The goal is to reduce the need for users to open other apps or navigate through menus.

“Now Brief,” a personalized information hub, has also been updated. Users can directly organize the information they want—such as health, weather, and videos—into card-style layouts. “Creative Studio” identifies upcoming events, such as a friend’s birthday, and proactively suggests creating celebratory images or cards.

The translation feature now includes “Thread View,” which allows users to review previous conversation history at a glance, and translation speed in conversation mode has been improved. The document scanning feature corrects distorted book pages or creased paper more naturally, while voice recording summaries organize content by utilizing titles and tables.

The new “Privacy Alerts” feature uses on-device AI to detect potential privacy risks, such as apps attempting to access permissions unnecessarily in the background. “Security Brief” provides security information—such as malware, apps from unknown sources, and unnecessary permissions—through Now Brief.

“Warranty & Care” has also been added to the Settings menu. Users can check the warranty period for their connected Galaxy devices, run self-diagnostics, view estimated repair costs, manage Samsung Care+, and schedule service appointments—all in one place.

SamsungElectronics plans to roll out the One UI 9 update to other supported Galaxy devices in phases. Feature availability may vary depending on the device, country, and region.
