[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] LG Corp. announced on the 20th that it held the “LG Aimers Hackathon,” a program designed to cultivate future talent in artificial intelligence (AI), at the LG Inhwa Institute in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, from the 19th for a two-day, one-night event.

Guided by its talent development philosophy that “people are ultimately at the heart of AI,” LG Corp. continues to run programs aimed at nurturing the next generation of outstanding young AI professionals. LG Corp. Chairman Koo Kwang-mo has emphasized, “Technology is not an end in itself. Ultimately, it must be directed toward people.”

LG Aimers, one of LG Corp.’s flagship talent development programs, is a hands-on program designed to solve industry challenges using AI technology. Since its launch in the second half of 2022, more than 23,000 young people have participated through this year.

A record 3,393 young people participated in this edition of LG Corp. Amus. Of these, 96 advanced to the finals after passing through online training and the online hackathon preliminaries, overcoming a 34-to-1 competition rate. LG Corp. is providing a total of 100 million won in grants to all finalists.

The theme of this year’s event was “Developing an AI Model to Predict a Pitcher’s Success Rate in Control.” Participants were tasked with developing a model that uses AI to predict the probability that a pitcher will successfully throw the ball to the desired location. This challenge focused on developing AI-based predictive metrics—rather than traditional result-oriented metrics such as earned run average (ERA), walks, and Samjin rates.

Hackathon participants gained practical experience by developing AI models that predict the success rate of the next pitch based on contextual information such as the game’s momentum, importance, recent trends, and pitcher-specific characteristics.

After the competition concluded, LG Corp. awarded a total prize of 10 million won to the top three teams based on a comprehensive evaluation of the submitted code, model performance, and oral presentation results. The winners will be exempt from the document screening stage when applying for positions at LG Corp.

In addition, on the 20th—the second day of the competition—LG held a job fair featuring four major affiliates: LG AI Research, LGELECTRONICS, LG Uplus, and LG CNS. HR representatives from each company shared recruitment information with participants, provided career counseling, and guided them through the process of registering for the LG AI talent pool, which grants priority consideration for future hiring. The event also featured one-on-one career counseling sessions with professional recruitment consultants and mock AI interview workshops.

LG Corp. Aimus is open to any young person between the ages of 19 and 29 with basic AI knowledge and coding skills, and the program is held twice a year.

LG Corp. is also recruiting participants for the “LG AI Youth Camp” in collaboration with Seoul National University. Applications for the 100 participants in the fourth session are open until the 22nd of next month. Youth selected for the camp will participate in a domestic training program that begins with a three-day, two-night session at Seoul National University in February of next year and continues through May, during which they will work on weekly team projects with student mentors from Seoul National University for 10 weeks. Outstanding participants will also be selected to take part in an overseas training program held in Silicon Valley, USA, for two weeks during the summer vacation.
