[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] KTCorporation Cloud will participate in the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) data center with a capacity of up to 300 megawatts (MW) in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.

KTCorporation announced on the 28th that it will participate in the Gunsan AI Data Center (AIDC) project being led by the integrated energy company SGC Energy(005090).

This project involves the construction of a large-scale AI data center on an 115,702-square-meter site in Gunsan City. Construction of the first-phase modular data center, with a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW), is scheduled to begin at the end of this year, with operations set to commence in the first quarter of 2028. SGC Energy plans to gradually expand the total capacity to 300 MW in the future to meet market demand.

KT Cloud will participate as a Design-Build-Operate (DBO) partner, covering design, construction, and operations. The company will be responsible for data center design consulting, major facility construction, commissioning for stability and operational verification, and future actual operations. Hyundai Engineering, as a joint contractor, will carry out architectural, civil engineering, mechanical and electrical, landscaping, and telecommunications work.

Modular and skid solutions will also be implemented to shorten the construction period. This prefabrication method involves manufacturing liquid cooling systems and power and cooling equipment in modular form at the factory and then assembling them on-site. KTCorporation estimates that this approach will reduce the data center construction period by more than 50% compared to conventional methods.

The project is also designed to handle the high power consumption and heat generation of next-generation AI accelerators. The company explained that it plans to be the first in Korea to apply a liquid-cooling-based “AI-Ready” design—compatible with NVIDIA’s next-generation AI accelerator, “Veralubin”—across all floors of the Gunsan AIDC. The design allows for flexible configuration of power and cooling infrastructure based on the AI systems adopted by customers.

KTCorporation Cloud will also apply the commissioning technology it has accumulated through the construction and operation of its own data centers. Starting from the design and construction phases, the company plans to verify the performance and interoperability of power, cooling, and control systems and conduct integrated testing under simulated real-world operating conditions.

Starting with Gunsan, the company will also expand the supply of AI data centers (AIDCs) outside the Seoul metropolitan area. KTCorporation Cloud plans to continue its collaboration with SGC Energy as the Gunsan AIDC expands to 300 MW, while also securing a supply base for AIDCs totaling 1 gigawatt (GW) nationwide by 2031.
