[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] The KOSPI extended its losses in the afternoon of the 6th, slipping below the 6,900 mark. After resuming trading following the market closure for the substitute holiday marking National Foundation Day, the KOSPI fluctuated around the 7,000 mark early in the session. However, the decline widened as foreign selling intensified and major semiconductor stocks, such as SamsungElectronics and SK hynix, showed weakness. In contrast, the KOSDAQ surged more than 2% to break through the 900 mark, buoyed by strength in semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment, as well as secondary battery stocks. The KOSPI opened at 7,044.67, up 40.93 points (0.58%) from the previous trading day. The won-dollar exchange rate stood at 1,344.0 won, while the KOSDAQ index opened at 902.16, up 8.87 points (0.99%). (Photo = Newsis) According to MP Doctor, as of 1:39 p.m. today, the KOSPI is trading at 6,913.38, down 90.36 points (1.29%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 7,044.67, up 40.93 points (0.58%) from the previous close, but turned lower during the session and fell to the 6,913 level. By investor type, based on NextTrade (NXT) data, foreign investors are dragging down the index with net sales totaling 1.3172 trillion won. Institutions are also net sellers, with sales totaling 74.4 billion won. In contrast, retail investors are net buyers, with purchases totaling 569.7 billion won. While the KOSPI fluctuated within a narrow range early in the session, it extended its losses in the afternoon. Analysts in the securities industry suggest that, amid mixed U.S. economic indicators, semiconductor stocks are taking a breather, leading to a rotation in trading. Kang Jin-hyuk, a senior researcher at Shinhan Investment Securities, analyzed, “As sensitivity to mixed macroeconomic conditions has decreased, the semiconductor sector is taking a breather, triggering a rotation in trading.” Overnight in the U.S., yields on 10-year and 30-year Treasury bonds soared to their highest levels since 2002, while September’s nonfarm payrolls fell significantly short of market expectations. International oil prices have also fallen due to factors such as the Group of Seven (G7) agreement to release strategic oil reserves, which is impacting the stock market. Researcher Kang noted that expectations regarding earnings and detailed shareholder return plans continue to build ahead of SamsungElectronics’ announcement of its preliminary third-quarter results. Stocks with the highest market capitalization on the KOSPI are generally trading lower. SamsungElectronics(005930), the company with the largest market cap, is trading at 270,000 won, down 6,000 won (2.17%) from the previous trading day. SK hynix(000660), the second-largest by market cap, is trading at 1,777,000 won, down 64,000 won (3.48%). SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)is also down 3.99%, and SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(-1.69%), SKSQUARE(402340)(-1.47%), Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(-1.38%), and SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260)(-1.16%) are all trading lower. In contrast, SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)is up 5.12%, and LG Energy Solution(373220)is up 4.45%. The KOSDAQ is moving in the opposite direction of the KOSPI. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index stands at 915.23, up 21.94 points (2.46%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 902.16 and extended its gains, rising to 918.37 during the session. The KOSDAQ regained the 900-point mark during trading on the 2nd for the first time in about three months, only to lose it again, before reclaiming it today. During the session, it rose as high as 918.37, coming very close to the 920-point mark. Supply and demand trends also diverged from those of the KOSPI. Based on NextTrade (NXT) data, foreign and institutional investors are net buyers on the KOSDAQ, with 124.5 billion won and 55.4 billion won in net purchases, respectively, while retail investors are net sellers, offloading 167.0 billion won. Analyst Kang commented on the KOSDAQ, stating, “Large-cap stocks across sectors such as materials, parts, and equipment, as well as biotech, showed strength, leading the index to outperform the KOSPI and break through the 900-point mark.” He explained that buying momentum is spreading to related materials, parts, and equipment stocks as the momentum for semiconductor capital expenditure continues. Most of the top-market-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ are trading higher. The top-ranked stock by market cap, Alteogen Inc.(196170), is trading at 258,000 won, down 1,500 won (0.58%) from the previous trading day, while the second-ranked stock, ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520), is trading at 94,300 won, up 5,400 won (6.07%). JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930) surged 15.61%, and ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)jumped 9.08%. Other stocks are also rising, including SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)(6.40%), HPSP Co., Ltd.(403870)(4.89%), Rainbow Robotics(277810)(3.23%), and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(2.49%).
