[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] i-Components Co., Ltd(059100), a company specializing in energy materials, announced on the 12th that it is strengthening its business competitiveness by focusing on high-value-added barrier films in line with the full-scale expansion of the perovskite solar cell market. (Photo courtesy of i-Components Co., Ltd.) i-Components Co., Ltd.’s barrier films, based on precision coating and deposition technologies, are widely used across various industries, including electronic shelf labels (ESLs). Building on the technical know-how and extensive track record accumulated while serving customers in the display and solar cell sectors, the company is making an all-out effort to expand into new application areas, such as perovskite solar cells. In fact, the barrier film division is maintaining an upward trajectory, driven by the sustained growth of the ESL market and the company’s unrivaled global market share. In particular, 2027 is expected to mark a major turning point for the barrier film business, as perovskite solar cells are set to enter full-scale commercialization alongside existing ESL applications. Due to their product characteristics, barrier films for perovskite solar cells must meet requirements for larger areas and higher performance compared to those used in existing ESLs. According to the mass production plans of a major global customer—with whom the company has collaborated for a long time and which is currently accelerating commercialization—the volume required in the first year of mass production alone is equivalent to i-Components Co., Ltd.’s total supply area of barrier films for ESLs this year. To respond swiftly to the impending widespread adoption of perovskite solar cells, the company is also accelerating efforts to expand its production capacity (CAPA). The company is currently investing approximately 5.5 billion won to expand its barrier film production lines, with completion targeted for February of next year. An i-Components Co., Ltd official emphasized, “We are expanding our presence in the high-value-added barrier film market based on the technological expertise and proven track record of supply we have built by meeting the demanding requirements of clients in the display and solar cell industries,” adding, “In particular, we are focusing our R&D capabilities and making proactive investments in facilities to target the perovskite solar cell market, which is expected to experience rapid growth starting next year.”
