[E-Daily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] SamsungSecurities ( SamsungSecurities(016360)) announced on the 14th that its Family Office has surpassed 200 client families and 55 trillion won in assets under management. As of early September, SamsungSecurities attributed this achievement not merely to an increase in the number of clients, but rather to the result of continuously refining its Family Office solutions based on the diverse needs that have emerged as clients build their wealth. (Photo courtesy of SamsungSecurities) SamsungSecurities’ Family Office is a premium wealth management service targeting ultra-high-net-worth individuals with financial assets of at least 100 billion won. Its primary client base has become significantly more diverse, extending beyond existing business owners to include “Exit owners” who have gained substantial liquidity through corporate sales, Shinhung business owners, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. In particular, the number of “exit owner” clients has surged approximately threefold compared to three years ago, emerging as a core client segment. Recently, there has also been a sharp increase in the influx of individual high-net-worth individuals who hold more than 100 billion won in financial assets, separate from their corporate equity stakes. As the spectrum of clients has broadened, the solutions offered have also evolved. This is because traditional owners, whose wealth is centered on corporate equity; Shinhung owners, who have built their wealth alongside their companies’ growth; and exit owners, who have secured liquidity through sales, exhibit distinct differences in asset allocation strategies, investment objectives, and family succession planning. In response, SamsungSecurities has further refined its investment management framework. A prime example is the “Investment Management Model,” in which private bankers (PBs) collaborate with investment experts at headquarters to manage clients. This model was established to provide clients with large asset holdings or those experiencing temporary surges in liquidity with a systematic investment process on par with that of institutional investors. A “Committee”—a dedicated advisory body for families composed of in-house experts—is also in operation. Through regular annual meetings and ongoing consultations, the Committee reviews clients’ asset status and current challenges, and works with experts in areas such as investment, taxation, and succession to propose customized solutions for each family. The OCI service, based on sophisticated institutional-level management processes, has also established itself as a cornerstone of family-specific asset management. As of the end of June this year, the assets under management (AUM) for OCI services for family office clients exceeded 900 billion won, and the service is being actively utilized as an asset allocation tool tailored to investment objectives and asset structures. Recently, we introduced a new customized OCI solution that combines the operational infrastructure and expertise of Samsung’s financial affiliates, providing integrated services ranging from strategy formulation to product structuring, management, and post-management. An analysis of the actual asset allocation status of family office clients revealed distinct differences in portfolios by type. “Exit” owners tended to diversify their investment portfolios by actively utilizing global assets and alternative investments. “Traditional” owners maintained a balanced allocation across stocks, bonds, alternative investments, and liquidity. Shinhung owners exhibited a dual-structure approach, managing personal and corporate assets separately based on distinct investment objectives. SamsungSecurities explained that, based on this analysis, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, it applies differentiated strategies tailored to each client’s wealth accumulation process, personal and corporate ownership structures, and the family’s long-term goals. The experience gained from managing 55 trillion won in assets has also led to the expansion of its global investment network. Through partnerships with global alternative investment general partners (GPs)—such as Apollo, Blackstone, and KKR—as well as global institutions like Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek, SamsungSecurities identifies and provides high-quality global investment opportunities that are difficult to access domestically. Furthermore, SamsungSecurities’ family office services are expanding beyond asset management for the current generation to encompass family legacy and future planning for the next generation. The firm provides customized “Heritage Solutions” that cover asset transfer and succession, including business succession, long-term tax strategies, testamentary, charitable, and philanthropic trusts, the establishment of charitable foundations, and real estate consulting. Furthermore, the firm leverages the investment banking (IB) capabilities of SamsungSecurities’ headquarters—including IPOs, fundraising, block trades, and M&A—to provide tailored support aligned with each client’s specific circumstances and corporate life cycle. This structure offers comprehensive assistance, ranging from the management of the owner’s personal financial assets to corporate growth, equity liquidity, post-exit asset management, and ultimately, the long-term transfer of family assets. Furthermore, by leveraging the Samsung Group’s extensive infrastructure, the division operates distinctive lounge programs—including cultural and arts programs, private conferences, and global networking events—to go beyond mere financial asset management and cater to the social interactions and lifestyles of client families. Yoo Jeong-hwa, Head of the Family Office Division at SamsungSecurities (Senior Managing Director), emphasized, “Based on the know-how accumulated through managing 55 trillion won in client assets, our global partnerships, and Samsung’s unparalleled infrastructure, SamsungSecurities will work alongside families to consider their important decisions and future.” She added, “We will evolve into a family office that collaboratively designs wealth and legacies that span generations, grounded in principles and responsibility.”
