[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] SAMSUNG SDI CO.,LTD. has decided to sponsor the Korean delegation to the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). The goal is to nurture future talent in science and technology.

SAMSUNG SDI CO.,LTD. signed a sponsorship agreement with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity and the Hanwha Chemical Society on the 22nd at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Under this agreement, starting in January of next year, SAMSUNG SDI CO.,LTD. will officially support the education, selection, and competition participation of the Korean delegation to the International Chemistry Olympiad, which is organized by the Korean Chemical Society. The company will also award separate scholarships to competition winners.

SAMSUNG SDI CO.,LTD. explained that it decided to provide this sponsorship to support talented students in basic sciences as they take on challenges on the global stage, while also contributing to enhancing the nation’s competitiveness in science and technology and fostering the next generation of talent.

The International Chemistry Olympiad is an annual international competition in which high school students from around the world compete to demonstrate their chemistry skills. South Korea has been sending a delegation since the 24th competition, held in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1992, and has consistently achieved strong results every year.

Next year’s competition will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, from July 19 to 28, and pre-registration is scheduled to begin in March of next year.

A company official stated, “We are continuing our various efforts to foster talent in science and engineering, including research support and educational sponsorship,” adding, “We will continue to contribute to the development of future science and technology talent.”

Meanwhile, △SamsungElectronics sponsors the Korean delegations to the International Mathematical and Physics Olympiads, while △SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS and Samsung Bioepis sponsor the Korean delegation to the International Biology Olympiad.
