SamsungElectroMechanics announced on the 22nd that it received the Presidential Commendation in the Green Industry, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Management category at the “2026 Government Awards for Meritorious Contributions to the Promotion of Eco-Friendly Technology and Consumption,” held on the 21st.

The “Awards for Meritorious Contributions to the Promotion of Eco-Friendly Technology and Consumption” is a government award that recognizes companies and institutions in the fields of technology, products, consumption, and lifestyle practices that have contributed to environmental improvement. Hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, the awards have been presented annually since 2008.

SamsungElectroMechanics participates in the government’s Environmental Labeling System and, as of last year, has obtained and maintained certification for a total of 23 products. The Environmental Labeling System is a national certification program that quantitatively calculates and discloses the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle—from raw material extraction through production, distribution, use, and disposal.

The company has also expanded the adoption of facilities and renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production process. By installing process gas reduction equipment and entering into Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy both domestically and internationally, as well as securing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), the company reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 340,000 metric tons.

In the area of resource circulation, the company recycled 3,431 metric tons of waste alkali and waste acid generated during the production process as neutralizing agents for wastewater treatment. Of the total waste generated, 6,501 metric tons were recognized as recyclable resources due to their environmental benefits and utility value.

SamsungElectroMechanics has set “Sustainable Challenges for a Better Earth and Life” as the goal of its ESG management and is pursuing four core initiatives: △Creating a sustainable global environment △Generating sustainable value △Mutual growth with local communities △Establishing a trusted corporate governance structure.

In global ESG evaluations, the company has been included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index (DJBIC) World for 17 consecutive years—the longest streak among Korean companies. It has been listed on the FTSE4Good Index for 15 consecutive years and has been selected eight times for the Platinum Club, the highest rating in the Climate Change category of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Jang Deok-hyun, President of SamsungElectroMechanics, stated, “ESG management is an essential area for a company’s sustained growth,” adding, “We will consistently practice sustainable management to actively respond to climate change and minimize our environmental impact.”
