[E-Daily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LG Display has surpassed 50 million cumulative sales of large-sized organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. This milestone comes 13 years after the company became the first in the world to successfully mass-produce large-sized OLED TV panels in 2013. It is the result of expanding the application areas of large-sized OLEDs—which had primarily grown around TVs—to include gaming monitors and other products.

LG Display announced on the 28th that its cumulative sales of large-sized OLED TV panels have exceeded 50 million units since the company began sales in 2013.

The pace of sales has also gradually accelerated. Cumulative sales first surpassed 10 million units in 2020, followed by 20 million in 2021, 30 million in 2023, and 40 million in 2025. The company then added another 10 million units in about a year, reaching the 50-million-unit milestone.

LG Display pioneered the large-sized OLED market in 2013 by becoming the first in the world to mass-produce a 55-inch Full HD-class OLED TV panel. Since then, the company has continuously improved size, resolution, and performance while expanding its product lineup.

In 2018, the company unveiled the world’s first 88-inch 8K OLED TV panel, and in 2022, it successfully began mass production of the world’s largest 97-inch OLED TV panel. Currently, it offers a lineup of OLED TV panels ranging from the 40-inch to the 90-inch class to meet diverse demands for premium TVs.

The company is also expanding the White OLED (WOLED) technology it has developed for TVs into the monitor market. Leveraging the fast response times inherent in self-emissive displays, LG Display has developed panels for gaming monitors that incorporate high refresh rates and DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution) technology. DFR is a technology that adjusts the resolution and refresh rate based on the content, allowing users to choose between image quality and screen transition speed.

The product lineup has also been diversified, ranging from large 45-inch gaming monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratio to 24.5-inch models designed for esports. LG Display plans to expand the application of WOLED technology beyond gaming to include office and professional monitors in the future.

Jeong Cheol-dong, President of LG Display, stated, “Surpassing 50 million WOLED units is the result of the efforts of our employees, who have overcome a challenging business environment and various obstacles.” He added, “Based on the technological expertise we have accumulated over the past 13 years, we will quickly secure a leading position in next-generation display technology and build a technological and business competitive moat that competitors cannot easily breach.”
