[Edaily Reporter KIM JI-WAN ] Psomagen, Inc.(950200)has secured additional work in a project to build a large-scale cell data set necessary for the development of biological artificial intelligence (AI).
(Courtesy of Psomagen, Inc.) Psomagen, Inc. announced on the 28th that it has secured a $3.72 million (5 billion won) contract for single-cell sequencing analysis from CZ Biohub, an affiliate of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI). This amount represents approximately 9% of the company’s revenue of $41.6 million last year.
This contract is part of the “Billion Cell Project” led by CZI. Psomagen, Inc. has secured this additional contract following its initial award of a single-cell analysis contract for this project in April of last year.
The Billion Cell Project is an initiative to build a dataset of 1 billion cells for use in developing AI models for biology. The goal is to accumulate information on the state and function of cells for use in disease research and new drug development. It is also expected to help identify targets necessary for restoring diseased cells to a healthy state. The data generated will be made publicly available for researchers worldwide to utilize.
CZI is an organization founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan that supports the development of computing infrastructure for life sciences research.
Psomagen, Inc. will deploy Ultima Genomics’ “UG100” sequencing equipment for this project. The company obtained certification as an official service provider (CSP) for this platform last year and plans to use it to generate the single-cell analysis data required for the project.
Based on this additional contract, the company intends to expand its single-cell analysis business. It also plans to broaden the scope of its multi-omics analysis services to include spatial biology and tumor genomics research.
Hong Soo, CEO of Psomagen, Inc., stated, “Following our first contract in 2025, we have once again demonstrated Psomagen, Inc.’s superior single-cell analysis capabilities by securing a major additional contract worth $3.72 million for CZI’s large-scale global biotechnology project,” adding “We will actively leverage the UG100™, the latest global sequencing analysis platform, to provide the best single-cell analysis services, while also significantly growing revenue in various multi-omics application areas, such as our new business ventures in single-cell and spatial biology, and tumor genomics research,” he added.
