KTCorporation announced on the 28th that it has officially launched the “6G Security Insight Group (6G SIG),” an expert advisory committee formed in partnership with the 6G Security Research Group of the Korean Information Security Society to discuss next-generation network security technologies.

The 6G SIG is an industry-academia-research consortium in the field of 5G and 6G security, jointly operated by KTCorporation’s Future Network Lab and the 6G Security Research Group of the KoreaInformation&Communication Society. It was established to proactively explore future network security architectures and countermeasures in line with the rapid convergence of mobile communication networks with artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and non-terrestrial networks (NTN, such as satellite communications).

At the kick-off meeting held the previous day at the KTCorporation Umyeon Research Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul, experts from industry, academia, and research institutions across various fields—including 5G and 6G security, quantum security, AI cybersecurity, satellite communication security, and Zero Trust—attended to discuss the operational direction of the 6G SIG and specific collaborative projects.

Going forward, the 6G SIG plans to hold regular roundtables and technical seminars to share trends in global security threats. Key areas of discussion include: △6G security architecture and core security technologies; △AI-RAN and AI-based mobile network security; △quantum security; △Zero Trust-based mobile network security; and △next-generation network security response strategies.

In addition, the group intends to jointly monitor the progress of 5G and 6G security standardization discussions within domestic and international telecommunications and internet standardization bodies—such as 3GPP, ITU-T, ETSI, IETF, and IEEE—and gradually expand the scope of cooperation to include future international standardization coordination and the identification of joint research and development (R&D) projects.

Yoo Il-seon, Chair of the 6G Security Research Group at the KoreaInformation&Communication Society, stated, “6G security is a field that requires multidisciplinary expertise in not only telecommunications but also AI, quantum computing, and satellite communications,” adding, “We will establish a platform for continuous exchange among experts to revitalize domestic 6G security research and contribute to global standardization efforts.”

Lee Jong-sik, Executive Vice President and Head of the Future Network LAB at KTCorporation’s Network Division, remarked, “In the 6G era, new forms of security issues will emerge as heterogeneous technologies—such as AI, cloud computing, and satellite communications—integrate with networks in various ways.” He continued, “Using the 6G SIG as a springboard, we will collaborate closely with Korea’s top experts and continue to identify security technologies and key challenges essential for future hyper-connected networks.”
