[Edaily Reporter PARK MIN ] A temporary suspension of program buy orders (buy-side sidecar) was triggered in the KOSPI market, which was rising by more than 5% on the back of strong semiconductor earnings led by SK hynix.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 28th, a buy-side car was triggered on the stock market at 9:54 a.m. that day. This measure was taken after the Mini KOSPI 200 futures contract—which uses the KOSPI 200 as its underlying asset—soared to 928.02 points, a 5.17% (45.64-point) increase from the benchmark price (882.38 points), and remained at that level for one minute. This marks the 54th time this year, and it was triggered for the second consecutive day following the previous day (the 27th).
Following the activation of the sidecar, buy orders for program trading on the stock market were suspended for five minutes starting from the time of activation and were automatically lifted at 9:59 a.m., after the five minutes had elapsed. The sidecar on the stock market is triggered when the price of the futures contract with the highest trading volume on the previous trading day rises or falls by 5% or more and remains at that level for one minute.
SK hynix announced its third-quarter earnings before the regular market opened that day, reporting its first-ever quarterly revenue of 100 trillion won, operating profit in the 83 trillion won range, and an additional 60 trillion won shareholder return plan, all driven by surging demand for HBM (High Bandwidth Memory). Buoyed by strong semiconductor earnings, the KOSPI opened up more than 2% today, breaking through the 5,800 mark and rising as high as 5,931.60 during the session.
As of 10:03 a.m., SK hynix is trading at 1,425,000 won, up 6.26% (84,000 won) from the previous trading day. SamsungElectronics(005930) is also trading at 238,000 won, up 7.21% (16,000 won) from the previous trading day, and is poised to break through the 240,000 won mark.
