[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] The KOSPI is fluctuating around the 6,000 mark shortly after the market opened on the 29th. Amid profit-taking pressure following the previous day’s sharp rise of over 6%, large-cap semiconductor stocks are rising and propping up the index. Market attention is focused on SamsungElectronics’ upcoming announcement this morning regarding its finalized third-quarter earnings by business division and detailed shareholder return plans.

Overnight, U.S. stock markets rose for the third consecutive trading day as the Federal Reserve (Fed) kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged, as expected (3.75–4.00% annually). Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, stated, “The domestic stock market today is expected to be influenced by short-term profit-taking following yesterday’s 6% surge, as well as the mixed after-hours stock price performance of Microsoft and Alphabet.” She added, “During the trading session, we expect the market to shift toward sector-specific performance as investors digest SamsungElectronics’ conference call and earnings announcements from major companies such as HyundaiMotor, SAMSUNG SDI CO.,LTD., and HANWHA AEROSPACE.”
Following SK hynix’s announcement yesterday of its largest-ever quarterly earnings and a large-scale shareholder return plan, attention is now focused on SamsungElectronics’ earnings release today. The market is focusing on the earnings of the Device Solutions (DS) division, which oversees the semiconductor business, as well as the supply status of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and the scale of Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) signed.
The shareholder return plan is also a focus of market attention. SamsungElectronics announced in August a shareholder return plan totaling 90 trillion to 110 trillion won for this year. The company plans to have its board of directors approve a cash dividend proposal worth approximately 30 trillion won today, with the remaining shareholder return measures to be disclosed during the first-quarter earnings announcement next year.
