“Geumwol Island” draws inspiration from actual accounts of cannibalism recorded in the *Annals of the Joseon Dynasty* and is a film that explores a new genre—the “Korean-style vampire”—set against the backdrop of a remote Korean island and a closed-off community. Director Baek Dong-hoon, known for the film *The Gourmet: Kimchi War*, is directing the project.
In the film, Seo Ye-ji plays Kim Ji-hoo, a character who confronts her own destiny. Kim Ji-hoo is a character who investigates mysterious events unfolding on the remote island of Geumwol-do, a place she arrives at after receiving a message from her mother.
This marks Seo Ye-ji’s first film appearance in six years, following *Memories of Tomorrow*, which was released in 2021. Having recently taken on her first theatrical role in the play *In Praise of Death*, Seo Ye-ji has signaled an active return to the screen with this announcement.
*Geumwol Island* is set to begin filming in mid-November, with a target theatrical release in 2027.
