[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] Kakao Games Corp.(293490)posted an operating loss of 26.3 billion won in the third quarter of 2026, marking its eighth consecutive quarter in the red. While the lack of new releases and declining sales of existing titles had an impact, the company is expected to see the positive effects of the success of its new title, "The World of Goblin," starting in the fourth quarter.
On the 4th, Kakao Games Corp. announced that it posted consolidated revenue of approximately 69.1 billion won and an operating loss of approximately 26.3 billion won for the third quarter.
Revenue for this quarter, calculated under Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS), decreased by approximately 46% year-over-year and about 8% quarter-over-quarter. The operating loss continued compared to both the same period last year and the previous quarter.
Revenue across all business segments also declined. The PC online segment posted revenue of 18.5 billion won, down 57% year-over-year and 17% quarter-over-quarter. Mobile revenue totaled 50.6 billion won, down 40% year-over-year and 4% quarter-over-quarter.
Kakao Games Corp. aims to turn the tide starting in the fourth quarter with new releases. “The World of Dokkaebi,” which launched officially last October, topped the Google Play revenue charts just five days after release and has since maintained its position among the top titles.
Leveraging the Korean-inspired worldview of *The World of Dokkaebi*, the company is preparing for a global mobile and Steam launch in the second quarter of next year, with plans to develop it into a globally successful, long-term IP (intellectual property).
Following *The World of Goblins*, Kakao Games Corp. is set to launch a series of new titles. On December 12, it will release the PC online action game *Path of Exile 2*. In January of next year, the company will begin preparations to simultaneously launch the MMORPG *Odin Q: Valkyrie’s Call*—which features isometric combat and large-scale competitive content—in South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Building on the success of the original “Odin” and leveraging Lionheart Studio’s development capabilities, “Odin Q” is set to introduce distinctive quarter-view combat and large-scale competitive content.
Kakao Games Corp. also unveiled a lineup spanning various genres—including “God Save Birmingham,” “ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom,” and “Guardian Maiden”—signaling its plans for IP expansion.
The company is also streamlining its business structure and making investments. Over the past three months, Kakao Games Corp. acquired the global casual game developer “Me2on Co., Ltd” and invested in “BackendX,” an AI backend technology company, among others. It has also made consecutive strategic investments in “Eyes Entertainment,” an AI social platform company.
In the case of BackendX, the company plans to leverage its proprietary backend technology to support developers in building and operating their services, while exploring ways to enhance its publishing competitiveness.
Lee Si-woo, CEO of Kakao Games Corp., stated, “By targeting diverse user segments with distinct differentiation points for each IP, we are once again demonstrating our inherent competitiveness based on a robust portfolio.” He added, “We will push forward with the launch of new titles, shareholder returns, and investments to secure new growth opportunities, and we will do our utmost to ensure these efforts lead to a tangible turnaround.”
