[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] #EGIS Co., Ltd, a domestic digital twin technology company, is accelerating its entry into Vietnam’s smart city market. The company plans to go beyond simple technical cooperation to build an AI (artificial intelligence)-based spatial information ecosystem that spans everything from the management of local cultural heritage to disaster response. (Photo courtesy of EGIS Co., Ltd.) EGIS Co., Ltd announced on the 4th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with “QTC,” a Vietnamese telecommunications infrastructure specialist, to collaborate on digital twin and AI-based smart city projects. This agreement was established to proactively respond to the “Mid- to Long-Term Smart City Plan” currently being promoted by the Vietnamese government at the national level. Da Nang City has been designated as a smart city hub and is currently working to introduce a digital twin platform and standardize data across all aspects of urban management—including administration and transportation—by 2028. EGIS Co., Ltd executives visited Da Nang and Hoi An in person to assess the business environment and strengthen their cooperative network. This move follows an MOU signed last May with the Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (AI4SD) under Vietnam National University (VNU). As their first collaborative project, the two companies will conduct a “HBIM (Heritage Building Information Modeling)”-based digital twin proof of concept (PoC) targeting major cultural heritage sites in Hoi An, a leading Vietnamese resort and historic city. They plan to thoroughly analyze the spatial structure and existing data to assess system interoperability and validate specific technologies. EGIS Co., Ltd’s strategy is to establish the Hoi An cultural heritage PoC as a successful pilot project and then expand its scope to cover the entire Da Nang and Hoi An regions. The company intends to identify new business opportunities by applying the technology across various fields—beyond simple cultural heritage management—including smart tourism, urban infrastructure control, and real-time responses to flooding and other disasters. A representative from EGIS Co., Ltd stated, “We will introduce spatial information solutions tailored to Vietnam through close collaboration with local institutions, rather than outsourcing,” adding, “After firmly establishing a local track record based on this pilot project, we will expand the scope of our smart city projects to major hub cities across Vietnam.”
