On the 4th, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS announced that it had moved up one notch from last year’s “Low Risk” rating to “Negligible.” The company achieved a total score of 9 in the assessment.
Sustainalytics, a subsidiary of global investment information provider Morningstar, evaluates the non-financial risks and management levels of approximately 16,000 companies worldwide and assigns them a rating on a five-tier scale. A lower score indicates a better rating, and the top-tier “Negligible” rating is awarded to companies scoring less than 10 points.
In this evaluation, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS ranked 4th among the 842 companies assessed in the global pharmaceutical sector. This places it in the top 0.5 percent. Sustainalytics’ evaluation results are used by institutional investors for investment decisions and fiduciary responsibility activities.
SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS explained that it was recognized for its overall ESG management systems and efforts in information disclosure. In the environmental category, it highlighted environmental audits and the development of hazardous waste recycling plans as key achievements; in the social category, it cited the establishment of diversity policies and the disclosure of quality and safety targets. In the governance category, the company promoted ethical audits and the establishment of board diversity targets.
In this evaluation, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS received broad recognition for its efforts to enhance management systems across all ESG areas and proactively expand information disclosure.
In fact, in this year’s ESG report, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS announced that despite the expansion of production facilities and increased output, it reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2023 by 9.0% for Scope 1 and 2 and 6.4% for Scope 3. The company improved its calculation method for Scope 3 emissions by applying product-specific data.
The company continues to show improvement in other ESG evaluations as well. In the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG assessment, it received an “A” rating this past September. Last May, it was included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index (DJBIC) for the fifth consecutive year, and in January, it earned the “Platinum” rating—awarded to the top 1% of companies—in the EcoVadis assessment.
John Lim, CEO of SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS, stated, “These evaluation results reflect our company-wide efforts to consistently enhance our ESG risk management system,” adding, “We will continue to practice responsible management and ensure transparent disclosure to further solidify the trust of our global stakeholders.”
