Newtree Co., Ltd. announced on the 5th that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aekyung Biopharm, a company specializing in fatty acids, for the supply of high-purity eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) raw materials and technical cooperation.
The core of this collaboration is the “domestic refining and reduced transportation time” of raw materials. Previously, the domestic dietary supplement industry often imported refined omega-3 raw materials via lengthy sea transport, which posed limitations in maintaining freshness and ensuring quality control.
Newtree Co., Ltd. plans to utilize Aekyung Biofarm’s domestic refining infrastructure to directly refine and concentrate crude fish oil imported from overseas at its domestic plant and process it into the highly bioavailable rTG form. The company aims to maximize freshness and achieve cost savings by significantly reducing the time required for raw material transportation.
An industry official explained, “For omega-3, rancidity and freshness management are key factors that determine product quality,” adding, “If a system is established to streamline raw material import procedures and directly source high-purity EPA domestically, it will significantly reduce residual raw material risks in the domestic dietary supplement market.”
Newtree Co., Ltd. plans to strengthen its premium K-Omega-3 lineup and increase its market share both domestically and internationally, leveraging Aekyung BioPharm’s purification technology.
