[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-wook ] JIN AIR returned to profitability in the third quarter, posting its highest-ever revenue, driven by an increase in travelers from Japan and China.
JIN AIR announced on the 6th that it posted an operating profit of 7.8 billion won in the third quarter. After recording a loss of 73.1 billion won in the previous quarter, the airline returned to profitability in just one quarter. JIN AIR had also posted an operating loss of 22.5 billion won in the third quarter of last year. With this return to profitability in the third quarter, JIN AIR reduced its cumulative operating loss for the first three quarters to 7.7 billion won.
Revenue also rose 35.7% year-over-year to 413.1 billion won, marking a record high for a single quarter. Cumulative revenue for the first three quarters reached 1.1964 trillion won, a 16.3% increase from the previous year.
The company explained that, amid a challenging business environment marked by high oil prices, its expansion of highly profitable short-haul routes to China and Japan—combined with an increase in travelers driven by the weak yen—led to improved performance.
JIN AIR anticipates that volatility will persist in the fourth quarter of this year, with adverse factors such as oil price volatility coexisting alongside favorable factors like the weak yen and stabilizing exchange rates. The company plans to manage its performance through agile route operations that reflect market demand, such as on the Incheon–Ho Chi Minh City route.
Meanwhile, JIN AIR, the low-cost carrier (LCC) of the HANJIN Logistics Corporation, is scheduled to relaunch next March following its merger with two other LCCs, Air Seoul and AirBusan.
