[E-Daily Reporter NA EUN-KYUNG ] Donghwa Pharmaceutical ( DongwhaPharm(000020)) announced on the 6th that “ECCLOCK Gel,” a treatment for primary axillary hyperhidrosis, has been adopted by 24 major general hospitals just five months after its launch.

“ECCLOCK Gel” is a topical gel formulation containing sofpironium bromide and is Korea’s first prescription medication specifically designed to treat primary axillary hyperhidrosis. It works by blocking the sweat secretion signal transmitted by acetylcholine—released from the sympathetic nervous system—to the muscarinic (M3) receptors in the sweat glands, thereby suppressing excessive sweating.

According to the company, the product can be applied to the affected area once a day, offering a new alternative to existing treatments that have primarily relied on botulinum toxin injections or sympathectomy.

In particular, clinical trials and post-marketing surveillance (PMS) studies conducted on Japanese subjects reported only a small number of cases of “compensatory sweating,” in which sweating increases in other areas instead of decreasing at the treated site. In a post-marketing surveillance study conducted in Japan involving approximately 25,800 participants, two adverse events related to compensatory sweating were reported.

Eclac Gel features a twist-type container, enhancing ease of use by allowing the medication to be applied directly to the affected area without having to scoop it out by hand.

A representative from DongwhaPharm stated, “Eclac Gel is Korea’s first prescription topical medication specifically for primary axillary hyperhidrosis, broadening treatment options for patients with hyperhidrosis,” adding, “Since symptoms can worsen during the summer, it is important to seek appropriate treatment through consultation with a healthcare professional rather than simply dismissing hyperhidrosis as a constitutional trait.”
