[E-Daily Reporter Park Sun-Yeop ] Weather big data platform company Kweather Co., Ltd.(068100)is expanding its heat index forecasts and real-time monitoring services for regions across the country in preparation for this summer’s record-breaking heatwave. The company is also set to begin supplying solutions that use Internet of Things (IoT) devices to manage workers’ risk of heat-related illnesses in real time at construction, manufacturing, and logistics sites.
Kweather Co., Ltd. announced on the 13th that it will provide the heat index by district, real-time heat index data for 32 regions nationwide, and forecasts for the next three days. Users can check the heatwave risk levels by region and the corresponding action guidelines for each stage.

The likelihood of an early heatwave is increasing this year, as the first tropical night was observed on May 30—19 days earlier than last year. Sea surface temperatures around the Korean Peninsula are also remaining higher than average. According to Statistics Korea, from 2011 to 2024, there were 788 heat-related illness deaths caused by heatwaves, which is approximately three times the 266 deaths attributed to typhoons and heavy rains during the same period.
The heat index is a measure that reflects both air temperature and humidity to indicate the actual heat a person feels. The heat index (WBGT), provided by Kweather Co., Ltd., comprehensively reflects not only air temperature and humidity but also solar radiation and heat from the surrounding environment. Even within the same area, construction sites with high solar radiation and surface heat may have a higher heat index than parks or shaded areas.
Kweather Co., Ltd. is also applying this data to its enterprise-level “Heatwave Management Solution.” This system integrates information collected from IoT perceived temperature sensors and outdoor WBGT monitors installed at worksites into a cloud platform to manage heatwave risks on a per-worksite basis.
Measurement data is recorded and stored every minute via a dedicated webpage and mobile app. If the perceived temperature or heat index exceeds a threshold, alerts and response guidelines are sent to managers. Analysis reports for each worksite can also be automatically generated based on the accumulated data.
In particular, at construction sites, thermal conditions can vary significantly depending on the work location—such as around tower cranes, in concrete pouring areas, or in underground worksites. Kweather Co., Ltd. supports real-time management of work feasibility and rest periods by measuring the heat index and perceived temperature for each specific area.
As heat-related health measures are strengthened, employers are required to measure the perceived temperature at each worksite and maintain records of the actions taken. Kweather Co., Ltd. explained that by utilizing its solution, companies can manage data from multiple worksites simultaneously and systematically maintain relevant records.
Currently, this solution is being adopted across various industrial sites, including construction, manufacturing, and distribution. Some distribution companies have installed IoT-based perceived temperature sensors at their logistics centers to monitor workers’ working environments in real time, while construction firms are measuring both outdoor heat indices and indoor perceived temperatures to respond to heat waves.
