Its cumulative audience total stands at 2,129,720. Reaching the 2 million mark in just five days is a first among Korean films released this year and the fastest to do so. It is also the highest-grossing film in director Na Hong-jin’s career. Industry observers attribute the film’s early box office success to the large influx of viewers during the holiday period, which coincided with Constitution Day (the 17th) and the weekend. Universal Pictures’ “Minions & Monsters” took second place at the weekend box office, drawing 308,576 viewers. Its cumulative total stands at 374,785. Disney’s “Moana” recorded 173,555 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 772,104. “Toy Story 5” took fourth place, and “The Eye” took fifth. With “Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” set to open on the 29th and director Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Odyssey” scheduled for release on the 5th of next month, all eyes are on whether “Hope” can maintain its box office momentum.
