Tailored Treatment for Pets Through a Paradigm Shift
#RecensMedical, Inc. possesses cooling technology that combines cryogenic refrigerants with thermoelectric technology. By utilizing this, the company can instantly and precisely cool tissue to the desired temperature and has developed medical devices capable of rapid cooling anesthesia or precision cooling therapy.
“Betiz,” for which RecensMedical, Inc. obtained approval in the second half of 2024, is a medical device for treating animal skin that combines the functions of a “medical cryotherapy device” used for pain relief and edema reduction, a “spray syringe” for drug delivery, and a “cryosurgical device” designed for tissue ablation. Betiz has been approved not only in South Korea but also as a veterinary medical device registered with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and as a Thai TFDA Class I medical device; it has also obtained certification for compliance with the European CE Low Voltage Directive and passed the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing.
According to pet market surveys, skin treatments are extremely common at veterinary clinics, with approximately 60% of pets visiting such clinics for skin-related issues. “Nationwide,” the largest pet insurance company in the U.S., announced that as of 2023, atopic and allergic dermatitis had been cited as the most common health issue among dogs for 12 consecutive years.
Vetiz uses a carbon dioxide refrigerant to rapidly freeze medication into microparticles measuring 5–30 μm using an ultrasonic jet at a controlled, safe temperature, allowing it to penetrate the skin. The frozen microparticles form microscopic delivery pathways as they pass through the stratum corneum. The active ingredients diffuse within the skin tissue for 24 hours and are delivered to the dermis and surrounding tissues. During this process, protein denaturation and osmotic damage are minimized to maintain structural stability.
Additionally, the system incorporates patented IR sensor-based feedback control technology to monitor the target temperature in real time during spraying and precisely maintain the target temperature even amid changes in the surrounding environment, thereby enhancing safety.
A representative from RecensMedical, Inc. explained, “Ice Needling is a new drug delivery method that uses microscopic ice particles to penetrate the skin barrier,” adding, “It enables more precise and uniform delivery, overcoming the limitations of conventional topical application and injection.”
Betiz can be used in three modes by switching nozzles: IN mode, which aids skin regeneration; CX mode, which provides low-temperature cooling therapy; and FX mode, which performs cryosurgery at extremely low temperatures. Specifically, IN mode allows for the application of “Bexoheal,” an exosome solution maintained at 2°C. The CX mode can be used to alleviate pain and inflammation by suppressing nerve conduction and inducing vasoconstriction and a reduction in inflammatory cytokines through precise low-temperature cooling and anesthetic treatment ranging from –5°C to 5°C. The FX mode can painlessly remove benign skin tumors, such as by necrotizing masses through the application of cryogenic carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas at –79°C.
In recognition of this technological expertise, RecensMedical, Inc. signed a marketing and sales partnership agreement with Yuhan for Betiz in February of last year. Sales of Betiz, which began through Yuhan, are growing rapidly. While Betiz sales totaled just 236 million won in 2024, its first year on the market, they skyrocketed to 2.273 billion won in 2025. Its share of total revenue also grew from 3.77% in 2024 to 25.75% in 2025.
Human Cooling Technology Expands to Pets
Betiz is a product derived from RecensMedical, Inc.’s human medical device, “TargetCool.” The proteins that make up the skin are highly sensitive to heat; denaturation occurs even at temperatures just 10°C higher than body temperature. Since heat-based procedures, such as laser treatments, rely on the principle of “tissue destruction,” the key is to act precisely on the desired tissue.
In contrast, human tissue can survive across a very wide range of temperatures. According to current knowledge, the skin begins to undergo structural changes at temperatures below –40°C. RecensMedical, Inc. focused on this characteristic to develop its cooling medical devices.
RecensMedical, Inc. also offers “OcuCool,” an ophthalmic cooling anesthesia device that can be applied not only to the skin but also to the eye. It is characterized by its use of precision cooling technology to achieve a physical anesthetic effect without drugs, as opposed to conventional chemical anesthesia methods such as lidocaine.
RecensMedical, Inc. plans to continue and further develop its business in veterinary medical devices utilizing cooling technology.
A representative from RecensMedical, Inc. stated, “The technology used in ‘Betiz’ is the same as that in the human-use cooling medical devices ‘TargetCool’ and ‘TargetCool+ (Plus),’” adding, “Based on a technology platform already validated for human use, ‘Betiz’ provides a more effective and differentiated treatment environment.”
