[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] CJ LOGISTICS’s “The Unban,” a digital middle-mile logistics platform for business-to-business (B2B) transportation, is strengthening its leadership in the digital transportation market by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology to connect shippers and truck owners.
CJ LOGISTICS(000120)The company announced on the 23rd that, as of the end of June, the cumulative number of shippers registered with “The Unban” had surpassed 7,000, while the number of truck owners had exceeded 70,000. Considering that three years ago, during the early stages of the business, there were approximately 150 shippers and 1,900 truck owners, this represents a 46-fold and 37-fold increase, respectively. Notably, registered truck owners account for nearly 30% of the approximately 260,000 commercial freight trucks in South Korea.
Given the nature of freight transportation platforms, the “network effect”—where transportation opportunities increase as the number of participants grows—is considered a key competitive advantage. CJ LOGISTICS believes that “The Unban” has established a nationwide, large-scale digital transportation network through the growth of shippers and truck owners, creating a virtuous cycle of growth.
Launched in 2023 as a real-time matching platform connecting shippers and truck owners, “The Unban” expanded its service scope this year to include contract transportation for corporate clients. It provides stable vehicles and freight rates for regular shipments and rapid dispatch for ad-hoc shipments, enabling truck owners to minimize empty runs and ensure stable operations.
CJ LOGISTICS has also strengthened the competitiveness of the “The Unban” service by integrating AI technology with its 96 years of operational know-how and data. By using AI to analyze contract rates, driving histories, route-specific demand, cargo characteristics, and regional driver supply and demand information, the company proposes optimal transportation solutions and has improved the accuracy of rate calculation and vehicle matching. This is why the success rate of automated dispatching has improved from less than 50% at the service’s launch to over 80% recently.
CJ LOGISTICS plans to continue expanding AI-based transportation innovations, including an AI order registration feature, to further enhance the service.
Choi Gap-ju, Head of the “The Unban” Group at CJ LOGISTICS, stated, “The Unban is a service that combines a nationwide transportation network with digital technology to provide a better transportation experience for both shippers and truck owners.” He added, “As an integrated middle-mile transportation brand encompassing both contract and spot shipments, we will provide even more stable and reliable transportation services based on our accumulated transportation data and AI technology.”
