On the 22nd, KT&G Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Marine Environment Corporation and the Good Wave Foundation to jointly carry out marine environmental protection activities. (Photo: KT&G Corporation) KT&G Corporation announced on the 23rd that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Marine Environment Corporation and Good Wave at its Seoul headquarters on the 22nd. The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-hak, Senior Vice President of KT&G Corporation; Kang Yong-seok, Chairman of the Korea Marine Environment Corporation; and Park Da-ham, CEO of Good Wave.
The three organizations will carry out regular beach cleanup activities in collaboration with local groups and volunteers. They also plan to conduct joint campaigns to prevent marine litter and raise awareness about environmental protection.
They will also continue the “Adopt-a-Beach” program, in which participants adopt and manage specific sections of the beach. KT&G Corporation has designated nine locations in South Korea, including Oido Beach in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, as Adopt-a-Beach sites, where it plans to collect trash and improve the landscape.
Last year, KT&G Corporation conducted 206 beach cleanup activities. A total of 2,326 participants, including local activists and employees, collected approximately 47.6 metric tons of marine debris, such as Styrofoam buoys and discarded fishing gear.
Lee Sang-hak, Senior Vice President of KT&G Corporation, said, “We will continue to promote corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the protection of the marine environment, in collaboration with various stakeholders.”
