According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 27th, “Hope” drew 767,365 viewers over the three days from the 24th to the 26th. Its cumulative audience stands at 3,415,709.
Despite polarizing reactions from audiences, “Hope” is driving a craze for repeat viewings with its overwhelming action and visuals. As of the morning of the 27th, the film’s rating based on actual viewers on Naver stood at 7.34, showing an upward trend compared to its opening weekend.
Online discussions continue to focus on interpretations of the film’s universe, the design of the alien lifeforms, and behind-the-scenes stories. Given the film’s strengths—impactful action, a vast universe, and a fast-paced plot—viewing in special formats such as 4DX, IMAX, and ScreenX is also gaining momentum. Analysts note that steady demand for both standard and premium screenings is supporting the film’s long-term box office success.
“Minions & Monsters” took second place at the weekend box office, drawing 117,916 viewers and bringing its cumulative total to 562,965. “Moana” held third place with 87,033 viewers, continuing its steady run at the box office. “Moana” has now drawn a cumulative total of 909,270 viewers.
“Hope” is the first feature film in 10 years from director Na Hong-jin—known for “The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea”—since “The Wailing.” The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.
