[Edaily Reporter Choi Oh-hyun ] SK hynix has drawn a clear line regarding reports that it is pursuing the sale of its stake in its Chongqing, China, plant, stating, “Nothing has been finalized.” This is the company’s response to a request for clarification issued by the Korea Exchange (KRX) earlier today regarding the reports.

SK hynix announced on the 10th via a preliminary disclosure, “We are reviewing various options to strengthen the competitiveness of our packaging business, but nothing has been finalized as of yet.” However, the company added, “We will issue another disclosure once specific details are finalized or within one month.”

Previously, some foreign media outlets reported that SK hynix was discussing various strategic options for its Chongqing plant, noting that if a stake were sold, it would be valued at approximately 4 trillion won. They also mentioned that Chinese funds and companies in related industries were being cited as potential investors.

In particular, attention is focused on future changes to the packaging production network as SK hynix has recently been pushing to establish a new domestic packaging fab. Last January, SK hynix decided to invest approximately 19 trillion won to build a new packaging fab, P&T7, in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. This facility is expected to handle back-end processes for products such as High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM).

In contrast, the Chongqing plant serves as a hub for NAND flash packaging and testing. SK hynix also operates production bases in Wuxi and Dalian within the Chinese market.
