[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] Actress Ha Young has decided to voluntarily withdraw from the Netflix series “Trauma Center” following controversy over her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho’s pro-Japanese activities.

A Netflix representative told E-Daily on the 1st, “Out of respect for the actress’s position, we have decided that Ha Young will not appear in future episodes of ‘Trauma Center.’”
It is reported that Ha Young conveyed her intention to leave “Trauma Center” after controversy intensified following recent revelations about her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho’s pro-Japanese activities.
“Trauma Center” tells the thrilling story of Baek Kang-hyuk (played by Joo Ji-hoon), a genius surgeon who once served on the battlefield, as he is assigned to revive a defunct trauma team. Season 1, released on January 24, became a hit both domestically and internationally, reaching No. 1 on Netflix’s Global TV Shows (Non-English) chart in just three days. Riding this wave of popularity, a second season has been greenlit.
In the series, Ha Young played the role of Cheon Jang-mi, a nurse in her fifth year with the severe trauma team, drawing attention for her righteous and feisty demeanor.
After Ha Young mentioned her great-grandfather on a variety show, it came to light that he, Ahn Sang-ho, had been active in the Daejeong Friendship Society—a pro-Japanese organization during the Japanese colonial period—and had made pro-Japanese remarks, such as stating in an interview with the Maeil Shinbo, “I am just like a Japanese person.” This led to a fierce backlash against her. In a handwritten apology, Ha Young stated, “Until now, I had only a fragmented understanding of my great-grandfather’s life based on stories passed down through my family. To my shame, in that state of ignorance, I have spoken of my great-grandfather on various occasions as if he were a source of family pride,” adding, “I will take this matter deeply to heart. I will take a closer look at my family’s history and that era, and I will adopt a more cautious attitude toward history in the future. Furthermore, I will study our history in depth and do my best to honor and serve with respect those who contributed to our independence and all those who worked for our nation’s liberation and well-being.” However, the content in which she appeared was set to private, and there were even calls for her to withdraw from projects currently in production.
It appears Ha Young decided to withdraw from the project because she felt burdened by this situation.
