KRAFTON announced on the 7th that the two reaffirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation regarding India’s rapidly growing gaming, technology, and digital entertainment ecosystem.
During the meeting, they discussed expanding opportunities for bilateral cooperation as well as ways to support growth in India’s gaming and new technology sectors. In particular, they held discussions on how to support games and digital content produced in India as they expand globally.
This aligns with the Indian government’s “Viksit Bharat (Prosperous India)” vision and its “Create in India, Create for India, Create for the World” initiative.
KRAFTON has invested approximately $250 million in India to date and plans to invest an additional $250 million over the next three to four years. This brings the total planned investment to approximately $500 million.
Furthermore, to further expand its investments in India, KRAFTON has established the $670 million Unicorn Growth Fund (UGF) in partnership with Naver and Mirae Asset. KRAFTON plans to focus its investments on the growth of Indian game IPs and startups, as well as the local gaming ecosystem, while expanding its investment scope to include emerging technology sectors such as AI, robotics, and deep tech.
As part of its efforts to nurture Indian talent, KRAFTON also launched the “KIGI Academy,” an industry-academia collaboration program designed to develop future capabilities across game production and digital creation. Furthermore, DIO Corporation acquired “Nautilus Mobile,” an Indian studio known for the popular “Real Cricket” series, to strengthen its local business foundation and is actively nurturing Indian gaming talent and locally developed IP.
Moving forward, KRAFTON plans to continue contributing to the growth of India’s gaming and technology industries by maintaining continuous investment in global games and new technologies, while also pursuing initiatives focused on talent development and the startup ecosystem.
Byung Gyu Jang, Chairman of KRAFTON, stated, “India is a key market with outstanding talent across gaming, technology, and innovation,” adding, “KRAFTON’s ongoing investment reflects our long-term confidence in India and our commitment to contributing to its digital economy.” He added, “Through our investments, talent development programs, and focus on new technologies, we will work alongside Indian creators, developers, and entrepreneurs to build experiences and technologies that resonate worldwide.”
