[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LG Display is expanding its “AX Squad,” a program that enables frontline employees to use artificial intelligence (AI) to create their own business applications. The company plans to extend the AI transformation—which began in manufacturing and development—to all business areas, including procurement, finance, and sales.
LG Display announced on the 13th that it is expanding the operation of the AX Squad to drive a company-wide AI transformation.
The AX Squad is a project in which frontline staff from each business unit identify problems or repetitive tasks encountered during their work as AI challenges and then develop solutions themselves. AI experts from the company’s internal AX Group participate as coaches to help employees with no prior development experience utilize AI and build applications.
A key feature of the program is that frontline staff—who have a deep understanding of on-site issues—participate in the entire process, from task selection to development. The aim is not merely to use AI tools but to enhance employees’ AI capabilities through the process of creating deliverables that can be applied to real-world work.
Currently, the entire organization participates in the AX Squad, with a cumulative total of approximately 450 projects. Of these, about 190 have been automated, including a program to simplify defect classification in manufacturing, an optical simulation tool in development, and an employee survey system in human resources.
Apps developed by employees are registered on the internal app marketplace, “Hi-D Agent Hub.” Other employees can download the apps they need and use them for their work. This platform was also developed in-house by LG Display employees.
LG Display also built its own vibe coding agent, “Hi-D Code,” to address security concerns that made it difficult to input internal data into external generative AI tools. Vibe coding is a development method in which the AI generates code based on a user’s natural-language description of the desired functionality.
Following the introduction of AX last year, primarily within its manufacturing and development organizations, the company has been expanding its scope to non-manufacturing sectors—including procurement and supply chain, customer support, finance and management, and sales and marketing—starting in the second half of this year. Vibe Coding has also been utilized in the recruitment system, training platforms, and partner information websites.
An LG Display official stated, “The AX Squad is a company-wide AI innovation framework in which employees directly participate from task formulation to execution,” adding, “We will accelerate our transformation into a technology-centric company through business innovation and the internalization of AI.”
